After an amazing weekend at the V Foundation’s Wine Celebration, sampling wine and food from a variety of local chefs and winemakers, and doing just what the event portrays, “celebrating”, we checked in at the Napa Westin Verasa for a good night’s rest and to get back on track as far as eating right and exercising.  Westin, enjoying a long standing reputation for their amazing “Heavenly” beds and spas, has turned Wellness up another notch, and presented travelers with a “no excuses” stance on health.

It’s easy to forget to pack your workout gear when traveling. At the Napa Westin Verasa, (as well as all Westin properties), all you need to do is pick up the phone, and for a $5 charge, you’ll have New Balance Shoes and workout clothes delivered to your room.  You are all set for a sesh in the perfectly appointed gym (which has more equipment than most hotel gyms), a guided group run with their run concierges, a lengthy walk through downtown Napa, or a yoga session.

Encouraging wellness is standard at this property, which employs a Fitness Redemption Program which encourages their guests to track 15,000 steps per day and posting it to social media using hashtags and geotags.  With the possibility of getting extra coveted Starwoods Rewards Points on the line, and a quarterly bonus for the guest that had the most steps, there is no excuse not to get your body moving.

To receive points, the resort’s concierge team will contact the participating guests directly to request the name on the reservation and their SPG number. Participants will obtain 1,000 SPG points per reservation per day and can collect up to 5,000 total SPG points per stay. At the end of each quarter, the guest who posted the most steps over the past three months will attain an additional 5,000 SPG points.

Food is very important in the wine country, and the Westin Napa Verasa has one of the top restaurants in the area, La Toque, but more importantly if you want to prepare your own food, the suites in the hotel include a full and perfectly appointed kitchen.  The perfect place to fix yourself a meal from local farm-fresh ingredients, which can be found in abundance at many of the local farmers markets.

If room service is what you desire, grab the menu and you’ll find a list of fresh ingredients that are available in the kitchen to add to the many already healthy choices on the menu. Complete with the health benefits of each ingredient.

And if food and exercise aren’t enough to restore your body after a wine country weekend, you can enjoy a massage or facial in the privacy of your room or in one of the poolside cabanas.
