The reason I take a nap every day………
“Why we sleep” a book by “Mathew Walker” is a canny pleasure to read, this book will have you turning the pages well past your bedtime”
In these super-charged, distracting times it is hard to think of a book that is more important to read than this one, and I consume books like eating food!
Until recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it serves, or why its absence is so damaging to our health. Compared to the other basic drivers in life, eating, drinking, and re-production…..the purpose of sleep has remained elusive.
Sleep, one of the most vital and most important factors of or our lives, and yet for some reason it is neglected in our present society, with devastating consequences in the developed world, Alzheimer’s, Cancer, obesity, diabetes, has strong casual links with deficient sleep.
Let me offer up to you an extract from his book to think about ?
…..
To better frame this state of prior ignorance, imagine the birth of your first child. At the hospital, the doctor enters the room and says……
“Congratulations, it’s a healthy baby boy. We’ve completed all the preliminary tests and everything looks good” ….
She smiles reassuringly and starts walking towards the door….
However, before exiting the room she turns round and says….
“There is just one thing. From this moment forth, and for the rest of your child’s entire life, he will repeatedly and routinely lapse into a state of apparent coma. It might even resemble death at times. And while his body lies still his mind will often be filled with stunning bizarre hallucinations. This state will consume one-third of his life and I have absolutely no idea why he’ll do it, or what it is for…..Good Luck!”
For me having a Nap every day simply turn’s my one day into two, an obligatory process since I start my day at 5am each morning, this morning 26/03/2018 during my ritual, my habits, one of them is my Shamanic Meditation to begin my day, no phone, no laptop, no emails…just super FOCUS before my day begins, I drew and scribed this…
My walking meditation..
“Take me to the beautiful river
And wash me down
Won’t you cleanse my soul
And firmly place my feet on the Earth”
It has become clear to me over time that “Got to Go! Got to Go! Got to Go!” busy, busy, busy, just doesn’t cut it.
Believe me, YOU are NOT more productive when you spend many many hours a day in front of your laptop, or on your phone with massive injections of caffeine.
But we are only human…. Sometimes my past conditioning arrives with a bang, and gets the better of me, my mind informs me “How can you even think about taking a nap, there’s too much to do today!
But these days I defiantly accomplish less, and the stress delivers panic, and I feel less fulfilled.
You May be thinking?…..
“What a luxury, what a fool, napping in the middle of the day, I can’t do that I am a Corporate Person”
“Not at my company!” or “Yes, if you want to be regarded as the office oddball!”
But take a look at what “GOOGLE” has to say about it…..

Luckily, My Shamanic MEDITATION works the same magic and is something anyone can integrate into office break time. Set ten minutes aside in a private conference room for this purpose, set your phone alarm as a reminder to go outside for a walking and breathing break.
If GOOGLE can find the time and support their staff before the mayhem starts, so can you, we all can, we all must…
IF YOU WANT TO WIN THE GAME?
Now go take that nap….
