A few days ago I got to speak with Joseph Rubelli, a digital content creator and host of the podcast A Cup of Jo– which brings together a unique group of individuals who share insights on online branding and content creation.
I asked him a few questions about himself, his podcast and his passion for content creation, here’s our conversation;
1. Can you tell me a little about yourself and what you do?
My name is Joseph Rubelli and I am a 27-year-old digital content creator, I’m from Venice, Italy but I’ve found London to be quite an interesting place to live in.
I run a Podcast which helps young entrepreneurs discover their zone of genius through educational, entertaining and inspiring content.
2. What inspired your love for Content Creation?
Before I got into Content creation, I worked for several years as a National Account and Business Development Manager in firms and part of my job was connecting with Bloggers and Influencers.
Growing up, I modelled for commercials in Italy. I’ve always a thing for fashion, writing and photography. I also enjoyed travelling, a lot. Whenever I visited a new place I would capture my favourite memories. Over time, I started sharing my photos on social media and this helped me connect with wonderfully talented individuals.
In the beginning, I didn’t know what my zone of genius was. I spent a lot of time looking at what everybody else was doing and tried to mimic them. That wasn’t me.
When IG stories were released I figured that it was a great opportunity to associate a voice to the pictures, so I did, and that’s where I started building a great connection with my community. People realised that behind the polished picture that I was a real person like everyone else and they got to know me better and relate well with me.
3. What’s your greatest achievement in your industry so far?
I love the radio and I’ve always been a huge fan of podcasts. A few months ago i started A cup of Jo- a podcast where I host other like-minded influencers, creators, and entrepreneurs. These individuals share insights on online branding, influencer growth and content creation. The podcast has been a success and I’ve gotten great feedback from my audience.
My podcast is available on iTunes, Spotify and Google Podcast.
I am recording a new season of the podcast and starting a new project on YouTube where I will be sharing content about lifestyle, digital marketing and growing your audience online.
4. What words of advice would you like to share to upcoming digital creators who are finding it hard to stand out in this saturated industry?
Just be yourself, have fun in the process and don’t burn out. There are over 7 billion people on the planet but only one you, you’re unique don’t steal that from yourself. Fear and comparison are always there so when you are starting I suggest you invest your time on content creation, not in the numbers of likes or your audience’s size.
You don’t have to have thousands of followers to be an influencer, Creator or monetise your influence.
Ask yourself these questions ;
- What do I value as a business?
- What problem am I solving?
- What’s my ideal customer and niche?
Knowing your niche is key. When you try to talk to everybody at once, you are talking to nobody. The more you know you’re ideal audience the easier it is to overcome the saturated market concern.
5. What are your hobbies?
I enjoy going to art exhibitions, museums. I also love reading and spending time with my family. I love working out- this helps balance my love for food. My husband and I often go for food trips, where we pick a location and discover new cuisine.
