After being sent home for refusing to wear high heels to work two years ago, Nicola Thorp “did not cower in her sensible flats,” according to The New York Times. Instead, she asked British Parliament to get involved to help address and remedy such antiquated rules. (That’s right — her boss was legally allowed to send her home for wearing flats.) The cause is now gaining ground in Parliament.
The pro-flats sentiment is one any woman who’s worn heels for hours on end understands. In fact earlier this year, Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN summed it all up in the following tweet: “The next petition should be one requiring men to wear high heels for a 9 hour shift before they insist women do.”
