One of the most important parts of anyone’s day is the quality and amount of sleep they get the night before. There is a lot of noise out there about how we are wired in today’s society to go-go-go all the time, and most days most of us don’t even stop to take a break.
There’s a misconception out there that we all just need to work and have the attitude that we will sleep when we’re dead.
This couldn’t be farther from the truth, and I think it’s time we address this problem head-on. The founder of this very platform, Arianna Huffington went through a dangerous life-threatening experience a few years ago that set her on a path to changing her lifestyle in several ways.
At the time, she was working long hours, traveling lots, and not giving her body the nutrients it needed mixed in with not getting adequate amounts of rest; so one day she collapsed. From this moment on she’s made it a dedication to herself, family and friends to pay attention to both her body, mind, and soul and stop neglecting the things her body needs like sleep.
This was a blessing in disguise for Arianna and an awakening, but in all honesty, we all need to stop and realize that we shouldn’t allow any of this to happen to ourselves in the first place. What I’m trying to say is that we shouldn’t have to get a diagnosis from a doctor, have our body completely collapse, or suffer a career-threatening illness to realize the importance of our health.
We need to be proactive every single day and treat our bodies and mind as the most important tool in our toolshed. After all if we don’t have our health there isn’t much else we can do.
We all have a choice and I want you to choose the importance of your health.
What You Need to Have a Good Nights Sleep
Remember, the most important part of everyone’s day is the amount of sleep they get each night to make sure we are at our best each and every day. Don’t forget this.
I recently heard of a company with some cool new innovations that I had to share that I feel has potential to help people with sleeping troubles, or maybe just help add a little more comfort to their sleep.
This company is Aloft Home and they have taken two classic household items; towels and sheets and completely set a new standard in the industry with their products. Their linens have a special silver-fiber technology within them that reduces 99.9% of bacteria growth.
If you are unaware, our sheets and towels we use every day are actually very dirty. If you want to see what I mean then look at the report released by TIME Magazine.
Another benefit that Aloft has implemented with its products is that they are a sustainable company containing some of the best kinds of cotton in the world found directly in the USA. Something I had no idea about. I knew there was cotton in the US, but not some of the worlds finest.
If there is one thing you get out of this article, it’s that I hope you realize there is a lot more to life than just working. We need to enjoy life, but also take care of our bodies so we can always be on top of our game.
Don’t wait until something bad happens to start putting an emphasis on your health, instead start making steps today.
Start small and keep moving forward. In order for all of this information to really sink in, I decided to create a short exercise for you below that anyone can do.
Simple Sleeping Exercise
- For one whole week (7 days) set a time each night that you will dedicate yourself to shutting all devices down and going to bed.
- This could be getting sleep anywhere from 5 hours/night to 9 hours/night.
- Do what feels good for you and your body and/or schedule.
- Take a mental or physical note of how you feel during the week, especially your mood and energy levels.
- Rinse and repeat or implement changes.
