This Stress Makes Me Want to Shout

Go Yell at the Top of Your Lungs!

It sounds crazy to go outside and yell at the top of your lungs, right? Other people might wonder if you’re okay or look at you like you’re nuts! Unless you live in the middle of nowhere with a population of 10 people in a 50-mile radius. Then I’m sure you can yell out loud as you want and no one would even know. Now that would be the ideal situation for this type of exercise!

In the past, I heard that yelling at the top of your lungs can release stress and anxiety.  Depending on what you’re shouting, it can even boost your confidence. I always wanted to try it, but was scared of what everyone else would think or if my neighbors would be concerned.

…..BUT WAIT!! Stop there! Something I have realized is that other people’s opinions don’t matter. So if you want to yell, do it! Who cares if other people stare. Just be considerate of what time of day it is. Your neighbors with the little baby won’t be happy if you’re screaming in the middle of the night.

Okay, let’s get to the story.

My Story

It was Thanksgiving Eve and I went out to a local bar with a group of friends. I only had one or two drinks because it was my turn to DD.

Dropping off my friend, let’s call her Sandy, was the last stop on my way home. It was just her and I in the car and she started breaking down, hysterically crying. Granted, she was drunk, but people say that true feelings come out when you’re drunk, am I right?

She was crying because this boy she liked kissed her friend and she’s been struggling to find a good guy for years. Ladies, if you find a good guy, make sure to hold on to him! But the problem I saw didn’t lie with the boy.

The real problem was that Sandy couldn’t find a good guy because she didn’t love herself enough to feel worthy of finding a great guy who would stick by her side. She needed to love herself before giving her love to someone else. So I decided to pull over in an empty parking lot at 2am and try this yelling exercise with her.

I told her to get out of the car and yell, “I AM AN INDEPENDENT, STRONG WOMAN! I DON’T NEED A MAN TO SUPPORT ME” She looked at me like I was crazy. So I got out of the car and said, “let’s go girl, get out!”

Together we yelled out loud:

“I AM AN INDEPENDENT, STRONG WOMAN! I DON’T NEED A MAN TO SUPPORT ME”

“I AM AN INDEPENDENT, STRONG WOMAN! I DON’T NEED A MAN TO SUPPORT ME”

“I AM AN INDEPENDENT, STRONG WOMAN! I DON’T NEED A MAN TO SUPPORT ME”

We both smiled at each other and started laughing. I said, “let’s do it again” and we did!

The tears coming from her eyes subsided. She was no longer stressing about a relationship! I could feel the confidence growing within her, but I could also feel an enhancement of self-confidence building inside of me.

Little did I know, I needed this too. I have a boyfriend, who I love unconditionally, but I don’t need him to support me. I realized that I need to support myself not only financially, but also mentally with self-love. I need to be confident in who I am, my capabilities, and my beauty.

Why Did I Tell You This Story?

Because…

ALL INDIVIDUALS NEED TO BE CONFIDENT AND LOVE THEMSELVES.

We will never be truly happy until we recognize and appreciate the light within us. Happiness does not come from external factors, but from internal support, love, and self-actualization.

Also, it’s a great way to change your life by reducing stress and getting that built up tension out of your system.

Now it’s Your Turn:

I would advise any of you to pick a mantra, any mantra. Some examples include:

I am Strong

I Love Me

I am Invincible

I am Enough

Life is Amazing

Balance is Important

The Pain will Pass

Go outside and yell any of these at the top of your lungs at least three times.
