“Arrogance is thinking something is perfect after the first draft. Humility is knowing that there is always room for improvement.

– Simon Sinek

The best way to approach interviews is being honest. Meaning as transparent as possible. The key is vulnerability, which is actually a great way to connect with people. Imagine an interview situation where you are conversing with a stranger. You would like them to open up as much as possible, so what can you do?

By asking the right kind of questions, you are allowing the other person to converse with you from a slightly more vulnerable state.

  • Find common topics of concern
  • I myself have had bad experiences with that
  • Where do you see yourself one month after this interview?
  • Are there any topics you are not comfortable discussing?

Here is a trick you can ask them when it fits the situation: I noticed you’re quite a talent in X. I always have trouble with it. Maybe outside of this interview you could give me some tips?

Keep in mind, it’s up to you if you want to talk about certain topics or not. After all, you are choosing an environment where you are going to spend a large portion of your life!
