What is that “x-factor” which fuels those extraordinary people who make indelible marks upon history and alter the world as we know it?
You know, the Steve Jobs-types.
The trailblazers. The disruptors. The visionaries.
What is it that these, often quoted, studied, and admired, forward-thinkers possess?
What is so unique about these people who not only imagine a future where anything is possible, but also dare to create and live it?
I have observed three qualities that stand out and are common threads within this group of evolutionary instigators; Passion, Innate knowing to search for answers within, Ability to use the power of intention, emotion and belief to direct their path.
The Passion Principle
Visionaries possess a dedication, a tenacity, and a love for their path and purpose, which transcends any perceived obstacles or any monetary rewards.
For this group, the path is the purpose. The end result, win or lose, isn’t the point. Win, and they celebrate, and then keep going, because there is no end to evolution. Lose, and they regroup, and get back on the horse.
Sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. Steve Jobs
But, ultimately, it’s about living their lives dedicated to what they love. It doesn’t matter if they don’t earn a dime, are never offered an award, or receive zero recognition, accolades and approval of any kind tend to be superfluous.
Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me. Steve Jobs
Asking them to stop doing what they love is akin to asking them to stop breathing.
It’s not going to happen.
They do what they do because it is their passion, plain and simple.
Innovation is an Inside Job
This crowd possesses an innate knowing that the source of innovation can be found within them.
They don’t look outside of themselves for affirmation, confirmation, or guidance of where they are going or how they are going to get there, because they know the path is within them.
As a result, they don’t even consider the next level of improvement on the industry standard. They will not be thwarted from following their dreams. And, it cannot be done is not in their vocabulary. They are thinking way beyond that. There are no limitations of creation and expression. Forget thinking outside the box. There is no box. They forge their own path and walk it with conviction.
For them, all ideas, inspiration and creation come from within them and they will find a way to make it happen. Period.
Using the Tools
This group of innovators develop a mastery of their intentions, beliefs and emotions, and combined with a daily practice, use these tools to direct their path.
I like to call this using the human toolbox.
So what does that mean? It sounds very intangible and airy fairy, right?
But guess what, it’s not!
In fact, I just finished reading Dr. Melissa Hughes’ insightful new book, Happy Hour with Einstein, which speaks to the neuroscience behind these powerful tools.
In the past, the intangible nature of behavioral practices, such as intention, belief and emotion, were difficult to quantify. But, as our technology advances, scientists have begun to measure and define the influence of what was previously less precise or even conjecture.
You see, I study the energy of consciousness, and use this knowledge in practical ways to navigate life.
Science has proven that everything is energy, quantum particles vibrating at varying speeds to create physical density.
I know on an energetic level why the methods and practices I teach work, but not everyone is on board yet with the “everything is energy” idea.
Dr. Hughes’ enlightening book, bridges that gap though!
A few tasty morsels of the wisdom in Happy Hour with Einstein
‘...if you get up in the morning, and believe that you’re going to have a miserable day, your brain will search for evidence to prove you right. Likewise, if you start your day with the belief that life is good, your brain will search for evidence to confirm that worldview. The outlook you choose determines whether you’ll get stuck in the virtuous cycle or the vicious cycle. The only way to get out of the vicious cycle is to intentionally point your brain in the other direction.’
‘Beyond happiness, we now know that gratitude can be a powerful catalyst for personal and professional growth, mental and physical health, and an overall sense of well-being if we incorporate it into our daily lives with intentional practice.’
‘Understanding that we can control the neural activity that creates the brain conditions conducive to optimism and happiness.’
Happy Hour with Einstein mixes the perfect cocktail of:
- Neuroscience
- Scientific studies,
- Behavioral aspects of whole-brain engagement and the impact they have on cognition, creativity and well-being
- Strategies of intention and practice to incorporate this knowledge into our daily lives
In other words, we now have concrete proof for why behaviors, such as quieting the mind, choosing our emotions, practicing gratitude, and daily intention actually make such a profound difference in the lives of the innovators of the world; and, these tools can be used in your life too.
My Experience
What I have discovered through my own path of thorns, which I now realize was and continues to be a journey of self-discovery, is that everything we need is inside of us.
These qualities we observe in others – the eminent and the distinct human beings who we perceive as having abilities beyond our own understanding – these gifts are within each and every one of us.
These gifts are not for only the select few.
This is our common ground. The beauty, courage, strength and vision we admire in others, is equally present in all of us.
That is the truth.
The truth is like a Lion. You don’t have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself. St. Augustine
Having an impact on the world comes in all different shapes and sizes. Some shout it from the rooftops and others whisper, but all of it matters. .
The key that opens this door of opportunity and revelation is to know that you have all that you need within you.
To quote the greeting in the movie Avatar, I see you.
I see you. I see your light.
I see the unlimited potential in all of humanity.
Now all that is left to do is to see this in yourself.
You are more than enough. You are perfect. Now go out in the world and be the perfection that you are.
Things don’t have to change the world to be important. Steve Jobs
Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat. Mother Teresa
