Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish made a statement in many ways on Saturday Night Live this past weekend: she was the first black female comedian to host the show, as W Magazine reports, and she wore the same $4,000 Alexander McQueen dress in her monologue that she rocked to the premiere of Girls Trip, a recent movie she starred in.
During her monologue, Haddish hilariously defended her stance on repeat dressing and explained why she’ll be wearing the dress for (literally) the rest of eternity. “I spent a lot of money on this dress. This dress costs way more than my mortgage,” she said. “It’s a $4,000 dress, I will wear this dress multiple times.”
Not everyone was on board with her fondness of repeat dressing. Haddish said that her team warned her against wearing the dress again, saying “it’s taboo to wear it twice.”
Repeat dressing is even more noticeable thanks to the internet, Haddish noted. Social media makes it easy to keep tabs of how many times celebrities wear a certain, in this case, very memorable floor length white gown to events. “That’s one thing I can’t stand about the internet, because it’s messing with my fashion game. I feel like I should be able to wear what I want, when I want, however many times I want, as long as I Febreze it,” she said.
Haddish is not backing down, though—she paid for the dress, looks amazing in it and will wear it whenever she pleases. “Real talk, you might see this dress in two sketches tonight. If somebody invites me to a bar or bat mitzvah guess what i’m wearing to it? This Alexander McQueen.”
