Still struggling with a bit of fear and uncertainty about what your new normal is going to look like?

It seems like no matter where you turn, there’s a million negative voices online and in the media triggering an avalanche of emotions inside of you.

The good news is: Today is yesterday’s tomorrow you were so worried about. (You might want to slowly reread that sentence a few times).

Yep.

You read that right. You have nothing to worry about tomorrow.

All that precious energy and emotion and focus should be applied to today.

There are three truths I am going to share with you that may seem simplistic, but trust me — they’re exactly what you need if you want to be calm and confident in navigating your new normal.

But before we get into that…

You need to know something first:

If you don’t know who you are (inside and out), you’ll struggle to thrive moving forward no matter what.

Sorry, amigo, but it’s the truth.

Unless you clarify your values, understand your calling, play to your strengths, explore your fears, and come up with a specific game-plan you’ll never create the future you want, let alone build the confidence you need to come out ahead through this crisis.

So before you jump straight to the three truths below, get clear on who you are and what you want out of life.

Truth One: You have survived 100% of your bad days so far in life.

One of the best ways to build confidence and remain calm is to remember how far you’ve come.

You only need to take a moment to reflect and ask yourself these three questions:

1. When have I faced challenges similar to this before?
2. How did I manage to work through it?
3. What happened next?

I can’t understate the power of asking yourself these three questions. Reflection really works. If you only take away one truth from today’s post, make sure you remember this.

Truth Two: Each day has enough trouble of its own.

When you feel overwhelmed or out-of-control bring it back to the present moment.

No one in the history of humanity has lived in the future (as far as I know). Tomorrow is the land of worry. Yesterday is the land of regret. Both rob you from the gift of today.

So, when you find yourself stuck imagining all the crazy possible worst-case-scenarios, stop. And, ask yourself one simple question:

What must I do today?

If you truly want to create a better future and face your new normal with clarity and confidence, you have to live one day at a time.

So, live in today and deal with tomorrow when when it becomes today.

That’s all it takes.

It might seem cliche’, but focusing on the present is all about living in the here and now. It’s the difference between actually living your life and watching from the sidelines.

Truth Three: You get to choose.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed by uncertainty, don’t forget you get to choose how you respond.

You’re not powerless. You’re not hopeless. You’re not a victim.

You get to choose your attitude.
You get to choose your effort.
You get to choose your level of faith.
You get to choose who you surround yourself with.
You get to choose to be responsible.
You get to choose.

So, slow down. Search inside yourself. And, don’t view your circumstances as challenges you cannot possibly overcome.

Instead, make the next right choice.

And, when in doubt, just keep telling yourself, “I get to choose.”

This is your meditation for today…

Breathe in: “I get…”
Exhale: “…to choose.”

What about you?

Can you find the time today to slow down and remind yourself of these three truths?

  1. YOU HAVE SURVIVED 100% OF YOUR BAD DAYS SO FAR.
  2. EACH DAY HAS ENOUGH TROUBLE OF ITS OWN.
  3. YOU GET TO CHOOSE.

Which one do you struggle applying in your life the most? Why?

Each of these truths can be turned into a meditation. And, each one has the potential to give you the confidence you need to calmly back yourself.

Today.

Here’s to basing your life on the truth and not how you feel…
