“Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build. Every time you step outside your comfort zone, you expand it. The world needs your magic, and the only thing stopping you is the belief that you’re not ready. But trust me, you already have everything you need to be seen, to be heard, and to make an impact.”
— Beverly Cornell
Building a powerful brand isn’t just about having a great logo or a sleek website—it’s about embracing your unique magic and stepping into visibility with confidence. Thank you so much for joining us, Beverly! Our readers would love to get to know you a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your backstory?
Absolutely! I’ve been in marketing and branding for over 13 years. My journey started with BC & Associates Marketing, a name that felt corporate and traditional, but it didn’t fully reflect the magic, creativity, and passion we bring to branding. As we evolved, it became clear that the name no longer fit who we were or how we helped our clients. That’s when we stepped boldly into a new identity and rebranded as Wickedly Branded, a name that truly embodies our mission—helping entrepreneurs awaken their brand magic, embrace their uniqueness, and show up with confidence. Branding is more than just logos and colors; it’s about embodying your essence and stepping into a presence that attracts the right people. Our work is all about making sure entrepreneurs don’t just exist in their industry but stand out with authenticity and clarity.
You talk about “awakening your brand magic.” What does that mean exactly?
Awakening your brand magic means tapping into the unique qualities, experiences, and perspectives that make you you. Every entrepreneur has a distinct blend of skills and stories that set them apart from the competition. The challenge is recognizing and embracing those elements instead of trying to fit into a mold. When you truly understand what makes you special, confidence follows naturally. That’s why I use the unicorn analogy—a unicorn never hides; it shines, stands tall, and confidently embraces its uniqueness. The same should apply to your brand. Too many business owners hesitate to show up fully, but the truth is, there are people out there waiting to connect with you, not just your services. They need your story, your voice, and your expertise to solve their problems and transform their lives. That’s why branding isn’t just about design; it’s about stepping into your power.
Many people feel nervous about making changes to their brand. Why do you think that is?
Fear of change and uncertainty holds a lot of entrepreneurs back. Many don’t realize that branding should be an ongoing evolution, not a one-time decision. It’s not always about a full rebrand; sometimes, it’s just about modernizing certain elements—adjusting colors, refining fonts, or tweaking messaging to reflect who you are today. Businesses evolve just like people do. Your brand should reflect where you’re headed, not where you were five years ago. If your target audience has shifted, if your pricing has changed, or if you’ve elevated your services, your brand needs to communicate that. However, branding often gets pushed aside because entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed. They think, “I have clients, so why change anything?” But when done right, branding makes everything easier—marketing, sales, hiring, and even pricing. It acts as a filter for your entire business, ensuring everything aligns with your mission and attracts the right people.
So many people are afraid of visibility. Why do you think stepping into the spotlight is so intimidating?
Visibility means putting yourself out there, and with that comes the fear of judgment. Entrepreneurs often worry about what people will think, whether they’ll say something wrong, or if they’ll be “good enough” to be seen as an authority. I struggled with this myself. When we rebranded from BC & Associates Marketing to Wickedly Branded, it was scary because it meant stepping into a new level of confidence and leadership. For a long time, I believed that my work should speak for itself, that I didn’t need to be the face of my brand. But I learned that people connect with people, not faceless businesses. The game changed when I started showing up consistently—on video, podcasts, and social media. It wasn’t easy at first; in fact, my first few videos were painful to watch! But as I kept showing up, I noticed a shift. Clients started referencing my content in our conversations, new opportunities opened up, and engagement skyrocketed. That’s the power of visibility. The key is to push past the discomfort because on the other side of that fear is a brand that attracts and resonates.
Have you seen clients transform when they overcome their fear of visibility?
Every client I’ve worked with has faced some level of fear when it comes to stepping into visibility. One of my clients, a wellness coach specializing in prenatal care, was completely terrified of putting herself out there. She had an incredible message, but she doubted whether anyone would listen. We worked on shifting her mindset and helping her lean into her story. She started small—sharing personal insights and real experiences from her clients. Within months, she went from hiding to confidently showing up in weekly videos. The results were amazing—her audience grew, engagement skyrocketed, and she started getting more inquiries. Visibility builds trust. People don’t just buy services; they invest in relationships. When she finally embraced visibility, people felt like they knew her, and that’s what made them trust her enough to work with her.
Where should someone start if they want to build visibility but feel unsure?
Start small and choose a platform that feels natural to you. If you love writing, start with short-form content. If you feel comfortable speaking, try a podcast. If video scares you, start with behind-the-scenes clips instead of going live. The key is to take small, actionable steps. One of my favorite books, Atomic Habits, teaches that small, consistent actions lead to big results. Instead of overwhelming yourself, take two minutes today to record a video, write a post, or send an email. Start with what feels easiest, and build from there. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
What’s one small step someone can take today to start building confidence in their brand?
Say yes to one opportunity that pushes you outside your comfort zone. It could be reaching out to a podcast, posting a video, or simply sharing a personal story. If you do it, tag me! I’ll be your biggest cheerleader. Confidence isn’t something you’re born with—it’s something you build by taking action.
What is the biggest misconception people have about building confidence?
Many people think confidence is something you either have or don’t have. But the truth is, confidence is built through experience. Every time you step outside your comfort zone, you expand it. It’s like a muscle—the more you use it, the stronger it gets. People assume they need to feel confident before they take action, but in reality, confidence comes from taking action.
You mentioned that you encourage people to take on a “visibility challenge.” Can you tell us more about that?
Yes! I challenge people to pick one bold visibility move this week and just do it. It could be anything from posting a behind-the-scenes clip to reaching out for a collaboration. The goal is to stretch your comfort zone and prove to yourself that you can do it. If you take the challenge, tag me on LinkedIn—I’ll personally cheer you on!
If you had to emphasize one takeaway from this conversation, what would it be?
Confidence isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you build. The only thing stopping you from stepping into your brand magic is belief in yourself. You already have everything you need—the key is to take that first step. Don’t live small. The world needs your magic, and it’s your time to shine.
