After two near death car wrecks, six months apart, that left me with significant head injuries, several broken bones and little knowledge of how long it would take to fully recover–if that was even possible.
At the time, neurologists told me that I would not be the same person post-recovery. I was given a cocktail of heavy duty pharmaceuticals just to maintain relative normalcy.
I lost a year of memory and was barely able to keep up with university demands, quickly dropping from a 3.8 GPA to a D average. I had difficulty concentrating and was easily fatigued.
But the neurologists were right. I wasn’t the same person after recovery. I became stronger, more ambitious, determined and malleable. I wouldn’t say I bounced back because recovery was a slow process–but I used my fear of the unknown as fuel to drive me forward.
By 2007 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in International Business, Marketing, and Management plus honors, co-founded a software startup in Boulder, Colorado with several brilliant entrepreneurs, and shortly after resigning – traveled to dozens of countries in search or eastern well-being practices.
From Bahrain to Thailand and everywhere in between, I made it my mission to learn everything I could about holistic healing techniques and treatments. I worked with conscious worldly scholars and helped hundreds of people.
The major takeaway here is to be cautious of buying into the beliefs of others. If I had given in to what the doctors and specialists told me was my fate all those years ago, I would have never left my bed. I would have never transformed my life, traveled to the far reaches of the world, discovered true and complete healing, or been in a position to impact others through my story and talents. But my belief in myself burned brighter than any outcome the doctors could have predicted for my life.
My message to you is simple and true: the spark within you, however tiny, is far more powerful than another person’s outlook on how your life will unfold. I believe you make your own magic and your own destiny. Let’s connect and explore the possibilities together.
