It’s 3 days since I pressed an innocuous button on my hosting cPanel to redirect a defunct email address towards my usual email server – and that’s when website armageddon began. Redirecting DNS servers inadvertently is something a non-tech person doesn’t want or need in everyday life, especially if you value your time ‘off the phone’ to Indian technical support teams.
It also happened to be the day I was launching a new program to a few specific individuals, so it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Or could it…?
You see, there are infinite ways of looking at everything (including tech disasters), and the downtime since then got me thinking about a number of things I wouldn’t have normally thought about… ‘if’ it had all gone to plan.
More time to reflect on what went wrong and how to put it right (not the DNS button pressing bit, I’m never doing that again). But what am I not seeing here? What is the message I’ve not deciphered about this tech meltdown? What is the Universe trying desperately to tell me by giving me this tech-nightmare?
[Note: If you are adverse to the word ‘Spiritual’, I suggest you stop reading this now].
When we struggle, it is often a sign of spiritual misalignment. Tooth decay is a sign. Heart disease is a sign. Anxiety is a sign. It’s a sign from the Universe that there is something out of kilter which urgently needs addressing. Dental hygiene… diet… life.
But website malfunction + email malfunction + phone malfunction + bank malfunction + others (there are some additional malfunctions I could mention here but won’t) = BIG misalignment = BIG formless message.
So what have I missed that’s so glaringly obvious, that the Universe needs to drive a large truck at me to notice it? Answer: the formless, infinite essence of it all.
“To the Mind that is still, the whole Universe surrenders” – Lao Tzu
The way to get the message which is being delivered is to listen deeply and see what emerges. Which is why meditation is useful. Downtime, so you can listen to the wisdom within and take instruction for the next phase. So what did I hear when I chose to look within rather than focus on the without?
Simple.
Make it simple. You don’t need bells and whistles, only a clear message of hope. The way to clarity is not more, but less.
So now I have a simple website. A simple message. And a simple lesson: Do less, be more.
