Why? This must be the first question that always pops up in your head when something happens or when somebody is trying to explain themselves. This question is what drives scientists to make new discoveries every now and then. I’m sure this is also the same question that brought about the original sin during the time of Adam and Eve (I know you want to ask why). In as much as we ask this question more often than not, it rarely gets answers, let alone proper ones. Do you know why you were born? Do you know why natural calamities occur? Do you know why there is so much pain in the world? You may think that you know the answers but you don’t. I don’t know too so we’re on the same boat.
The reason why (I swear this is getting tedious) I’m bringing this up is because of the word resolve. Some may refer to it as determination. Others refer to it as intent. It is the driving force of nature. You cannot do anything in this world without intent. Seriously, you can’t be working your ass off 24/7, 5 days a week if you’re not getting paid in return. You can’t decide to be with someone if you don’t want to grow with your significant other mutually. There is always a reason to why you’re doing something. Pretty simple, huh? But there are other whys to other whys. It’s like a layer of peanut butter on top of another layer of peanut butter.
Resolve isn’t as easy to enact as it is to pronounce it. It takes true intent for you to get what you desire. Otherwise everyone would be rich. Who doesn’t love money? Most of us have ambitions in life but it always seems to get out of reach. Why? We lack resolve. We lack the understanding of why we desire those ambitions. To demonstrate my point, I’m going to use a random (and arbitrary) dialogue between a girl and her spirit guide.
Girl: Ok, this is frustrating. Everything is going to shit and I just don’t know why. If only someone could help me.
S.G: Hello, my dear. I’m your spirit guide. I’m here to clarify things to you.
Girl: Is this real? This must be a dream, right?
S.G: Depends on how you see it.
Girl: So, you say you have answers. Why then am I not rich? Why am I not in a relationship with my crush? Why am I not happy?
S.G: One at a time. I’ll answer your questions by asking you other questions.
Girl: And how will that clarify things?
S.G: You’ll see. Let’s begin with the first one. You want to be rich, yes? Why?
Girl: So that I can have all the best things in life.
S.G: Why?
Girl: So that I stop having these problems
S.G: Why?
Girl: Because I feel I’m not worthy enough to my friends who seem to have everything figured out.
S.G: Why?
Girl: Are you okay? You sound like a broken record.
S.G: I’m always okay. I’m just trying to get to the bottom of this. So, why?
Girl: Because I don’t feel worthy of myself. I’m a piece of shit. I don’t deserve good things in life.
S.G: Why?
Girl: Because…because…wait, who said I don’t deserve the good things in life?
S.G: Uhm, you did.
Girl: So, all this time I’ve been making myself feel unworthy. This means I can do the opposite and make myself a great person.
S.G: Go on.
Girl: Which means I can have whatever I want in life.
S.G: Yes, but…
Girl: I have to understand why I desire those things.
S.G: Ding!!
Girl: Wow. I never thought of it that way.
S.G: Again, it depends on how you see it.
The moral here is to try and understand what you’re trying to do or achieve in life otherwise it will just continue being an endless search for the impossible. If this example doesn’t work for you, I’d recommend you to binge watch the Matrix Trilogy and if you have, watch it again. Pay close attention to the dialogue that The Oracle and Neo have in those three movies. They are the most important and they will help you gain some perspective. Plus, The Oracle adds more points to what I’m trying to say here.
“We can never see beyond a choice we don’t understand.”
