Background
On March 7, 2020, the Italian Prime Minister made a courageous move and put much of the country under lockdown. Essentially, he forced 16+ Million residents into quarantine. Later, on March 10, 2020, the Prime Minister put the entire country under a shelter in place order, aka lockdown. Indeed, this makes Italy the first country to quarantine everyone due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus.
A Drastic Change
Indeed, we quickly realized that our lives were about to drastically change. For example, travel, for the next little while would be off the table.
We thought, what should we do? Admittedly, we looked at how long China has been locked down and figured our fate could be similar. This was an easy one. Andrea and I decided to journal our entire experience. Yep, we’d take the time and video all the things we do during the day, and write about it as well on our travel blog.
So far, we have had ups and downs. There’s been confusion, regulatory issues, and a general feeling of unease. But, after a week, life goes on. And as the Italians sing from their balconies in solidarity, and share #iorestoacasa (I stay home) on social media, there seems to be an acceptance that this is just something we have to live with.
As for Andrea and I, are using the time wisely:
- Catching up on housework
- More productive with our website
- Responding to everyone’s comments on social media
- Watching more Netflix, all while
- Eating in / Eating healthier
One of our favorite ways to travel is by cruise ship. Indeed, all our days spent cruising in inside cabins have well prepared us for this situation.
My only hope is that as a society, we learn from this experience so that it is better handled the next time something like this comes around.
