I always go by a simple motto. Am I happier alone or with this person in front of me? If I am happier alone, I am quick to stay single. But if you find a partner who makes you thrive, then it will feel like you have found gold.

So choose wisely. But how do you know when you are in a healthy relationship or not? Here are some simple ingredients, based on my own experience:

Love – there must be love. Without this simple emotion, there should be no foundation for a sustainable relationship.

Non-judgemental – Personally, this is another important key ingredient. The partner must be ready to accept who you are, the good, the bad and the ugly without judgement.

Compassion – I don’t know how anyone can have a healthy relationship without some compassion for one another. Be kind.

Honesty – Be honest about the relationship too. If things are not working out, communicate in ways to work it out. It may take time to communicate honestly but give it time to foster this honest communication. This will be needed down the road when you have to tackle challenges in your relationship.

Joy – After love, you must be able to feel the simple joy. It’s just a feeling that you feel lucky and grateful to be with this person.

So what’s your quick checklist for a good relationship?
