New York Times bestselling author and UPenn professor Adam Grant says a meaningful connection can start anywhere — even in your morning Starbucks run. The Give and Take author says giving someone else a sense of dignity and respect will lead them to reciprocate it.
“Pick the Starbucks barista today and say okay, I’m going to make it a point to just acknowledge that that person exists,” Grant says. “To not just say thank you, but ask them how their day is going.”
The simple interaction goes from meaningless to significant — and is essentially a must better use of everyone’s time.
