Often in life, we find ourselves standing at a crossroads without knowing where to go next.

Maybe you’ve just graduated from college, or were recently laid off from that management position of which you were so proud. Whatever the case, you now have to make some serious decisions that will affect the rest of your life.

Or do you?

The truth is that things are never as black or white as they seem. In fact, not knowing what to do might be the best thing that’s ever happened to you.

Rather than symbolizing a lack of character or drive, not having certainty about the future can mean you’re open to whatever opportunities arrive. Whether it’s starting your own business or learning the ropes of futures market investing, the road to entrepreneurship success is paved with uncertainty.

Thus, what in other circumstances might be considered an existential crisis can actually become your biggest business asset.

Think about it: How many successful entrepreneurs do you know who started knowing what they wanted all along? In most cases, people who think they know what they want at eighteen years old end up living a comfortable, predictable (boring) life. They get married, have kids, and punch their cards at work every weekday. Which is fine for some, but for you it may not be enough.

Don’t get me wrong, confidence and self-assurance are great. But obsessing about goals can atrophy your will to change things and consider them from different angles. Like the ruralite who is happy never to leave his small town, you won’t reach your true potential if you never question where your life is going.

So don’t be afraid to embrace your uncertainty. In fact, make it the engine that powers every aspect of your life.

There are a thousand ways to find out what you should do with your life. Did you ever dream of being something as a kid but then put those thoughts away when you “grew up”? If you answered yes, then this is the perfect time to explore those childhood fantasies.

Have you always wanted to be your own boss? Well, consider it done. Remember that from now on your future is in your hands only.

Whether you have the funds you need to start your business or not makes no difference at all. What you should care about is that you’ll never know what could have been if you don’t give it a try.

So get out there — and whatever you do, make sure you put your heart and soul into it.
