As most of us already know, the world is full of negative and toxic people. And yes, they are downright draining as well. For instance, we all have that whiney friend on social media who keeps complaining about his/her life, in spite of everything one can think of, or someone in your workplace who is not happy seeing your rise the success ladder.

These people will suck off on your positive vibes and must be dealt with from your life. However, it is only up to you to decide if someone needs to be kicked off the curb. After all, we all have our personal limitations on how much negativity we can endure or bear.

Here are some reasons why you need to get rid of roaches (both literally and figuratively):

  1. Negativity can affect your attitude and your way of life

A few years back, I was writing my very first novel and wanted to get it to publication as soon as possible. So I went ahead and made a year’s deadline for myself. My family and friends were very supportive and helped me where they could.

However, acquaintances were a different story altogether. Some of them told me that my goal was too unrealistic and I was simply out of my depth. If I paid heed to those negative comments or chosen to trust in their words, it would have affected my attitude and make me doubt my own abilities.

Negative and toxic people will discourage you and will try to slow your race to the top or drag you down. Once you get rid of these people, your positive vibe will return back to you.

  1. Negative feedback will affect your thinking and confidence

Toxic and negative people are not known as energy suckers for anything! The main problem with these types of people is that if you hang out with them long enough, you will start seeing the world like them; instead of positive thoughts, you will start thinking negatively.

This change happens very stealthily and will impact your thinking pattern or change on what you believe, even before you know it.

  1. These people will drain your energy

If you hang around with people who share the same positive outlook of life as yours, you will see that there is a rise in your energy level. When it comes to negative people, it is the opposite; they tend to drain your energy. Personally, I have noticed this way many times. Some people walk into your room and the energy level becomes encouraging; some other group walks in and the energy level falls like a meteorite.

  1. Toxic people will damage your credibility

If you surround yourself with people who have nothing good to talk about, you may not realize it fast but other people will start associating and judging you, based on the people with whom you hang out with. If you hang out with these negative and small-minded personalities, you will look small-minded and negative.

Once, I had a business partner with whom I worked on several different projects. After a point of time, I stopped working with him. But once I did, I had many people come up to me and tell me that they were very surprised that I was in business league with him; I had no idea that my association with my previous partner was damaging my reputation and credibility so much!

  1. Negative people will not speak a single word of encouragement

Apart from imparting negative energies, toxic people are incapable of speaking words of encouragement. They always give you negative feedback. In fact, they are so good at it that everything they say will make sense to you.

In your life, there will be times when you are facing tough times or struggling a lot; what you need in times like this is someone who can support and convince you that the work can be done. You do not need someone who does exactly the opposite. Find someone who will lift you, not drag you down.

  1. These people can be very hard to get rid of

Once, I went to a college where I was a speaker. Once the event was done, I was having a small talk with the students about negative and toxic people. Most of them told me that they have that one such ‘friend’ whom they have known since their school times; they did not want to get rid of them so they do not feel bad.

I strongly encouraged them all to do so and end all relationships with negative people so spare them from the huge negative impact that one person is having in their lives. You will find people who will either inspire you or drain you; hence, you need to pick them wisely.

  1. Negative people live for drama

I used to be associated with a lot of negative people in my life. What common aspect I noticed about them is that they love drama. Their take on everything is dramatic. I tried to help and coach them, but all in vain. Soon, it dawned on me that they enjoy and relish drama.

Negative people love drama, which is obviously something that you do not need in your life right now. For them, you are just another character in their apparent drama ‘masterpiece’.

  1. Life is too short for any sort of negativity

This point is personally my own. I feel that life is really not long enough to be spent around grouchy, grumpy, crabby, and negative people. They tend to make our lives miserable and I do want to live my life with a positive attitude. I want to spend my time around quality people and I try to limit my conversations with negative people to bring me more happiness and joy.

The above are just some of the many reasons why you need to stay away from negative people and remove this toxic relationship from your life. Once you do, you will notice that life has once again become quite simple and easy-going, with nothing but positive vibes.
