“This is my me time – I get to walk in, sit down, have coffee, and have someone take care of me for a change!”

If that sounds selfish to you, it’s because it is.  And you know what?  That’s 100% OK!  Sometimes you need to be selfish, you’re allowed.  As women, we wear so many hats:  girlfriend, wife, daughter, mom, aunt, entrepreneur, co-worker, the list goes on and so do the responsibilities of each role.   Sometimes you just need to take off all of the hats and just be unapologetically pampered by someone else.

A quick trip to the salon (or hey stay as long as you’d like) could be just what the doctor ordered to refresh and unwind YOU so when you go back to wearing another hat, you’re feeling more positive about yourself.  The salon is one of the few judgement free zones out there that’s there for YOU! Your stylist and the support group you find at each and every appointment is amazing, and they’re likely going to be cheering for you every step of the way.

Every Wednesday I get the absolute pleasure of chatting with a female entrepreneur mastermind group and the other day and we got into all of the juicy details of why we LOVE going to the salon….even just for a blowout and here they are.

  1. Reduce stress.  There’s nothing quite like having someone grab you a drink, run warm water over your head, give you an amazing scalp massage and all you have to do is show up and sit down. For 3-5 glorious minutes you are being rubbed, your hair is being washed, you don’t have to rush, and you are giving back to yourself.  You can even be completely silent and let us Hairstylists work our magic on you!  We’ve got your back girl and it’s our goal to give you a fraction of the love and support you give to everyone around you.  For the next 2-3 days you will not have to worry with that mop of yours – no shampoo, conditioner, blow-drying, you get to brush and go!  Who knows, you might even get to sip your coffee in silence for 10 whole minutes each morning for the next few days!
  2. Connect with others.  There is no guide book that has ever been created that tells you how to be amazing at every single role in life.  So connecting with others who have been exactly where you are, and learning from them is key.  There’s really no topic that hasn’t been discussed in the salon, so get the conversation started!  Ask your stylist if they or anyone in the salon knows what to do: for a broken heart, with body changes post-partum, when overcoming fear, when it feels like the world is falling down, when you’ve been invited to a fancy event, for family photos, or even how to juggle the kids schedules with yours.  I promise, you will get validation that you’re not alone and you’ll probably get a nugget of knowledge (and you’ll probably laugh at the candid responses) from someone there that will help you navigate any waters it is you’re treading.
  3. Boost confidence.  What’s better than date night hair?!  Date night hair on a non-date night!  The transformation that happens right before your eyes when your frizzy, lifeless hair is whipped into a voluminous but smooth look is quite possibly one of the greatest feelings ever…and you didn’t have to do it!  Let’s face it, you never get your hair to look as good as your Hairstylist does…and it feels so good to look in the mirror with confidence and know that you’re looking at YOUR hair, all perfect and polished.  When you feel like you look good, you feel better about yourself. Who knows, this might be the perfect time to check in on social media and snap a new selfie showing your confidence!

So the next time you’re feeling like you need (or want) someone to take care of you for a change….call (or pop in!) your salon and get a blowout!  What do you have to lose?  Nothing!  Because you’re worth it!
