Today is Women’s Equality Day, so I took the opportunity to speak with some incredible women on their motivation, inspiration, and how they feel about Women’s Equality thus far.
Cuban-American business consultant and entrepreneur Isabella Silverio gives great insight on what equality means to her, and how she supports other women.
What does equality mean to you?
When I think of the word equality, I immediately think of opportunity. However, while I believe in my heart that all humans on earth deserve to be seen and treated equally, we must chase opportunities if we wish to create the life of freedom that we crave.
Who are some women that inspire you?
I constantly look to women in the entertainment industry as inspiration. I’m always inspired by Gina Rodriguez, Emma Watson, Taylor Swift. Their openness in sharing their experiences and positions of their industry inspires me to be just as outspoken. The power of using your voice and unintentionally activating others to do the same is a remarkable domino effect.
What are some ways that women can show support to one another every day?
Be kind! Plain and simple. It takes a lot less energy to be kind than it does to be malicious or rude. It can be as simple as thanking the cashier at the grocery store, asking your doctor how their day is going, or even reaching out to a friend who you haven’t heard from in a while.
Kindness inspires more kindness. When you encounter unkindness, listen closely and you will find fear and hurt. Have empathy and listen.
How are you celebrating Women’s Equality Day?
I’m celebrating by empowering my clients! I’ll also be binge-watching episodes of Jane the Virgin just for fun.
What do you love most about being a woman?
I love how we can’t help but help each other. I believe that the most beautiful and powerful quality a human can have is to be nurturing, a quality women are exceptional at naturally.
How do you spread girl power?
I spread girl power by embracing my femininity online and being honest about my journey as a woman. Just this morning I spoke about how I am currently at my heaviest weight, but I am also the happiest and most successful I have ever been.
I think it’s important to be honest and vulnerable with my audience because that will hopefully push them to be honest as well.
What are some of your favorite woman-owned brands?
I’m obsessed with the skincare brand Tatcha. The product quality, branding, and messaging behind the founder’s story of struggling to find quality Japanese skincare is the exact spirit of entrepreneurship in action: experiencing a problem and not settling for the markets solution, but creating your own.
What does the future of women’s equality look like to you?
I want to see more women in political and C-level offices. I want women to not be inspirational to not just other women, but to all genders. I envision men looking and aspiring to be like successful women in the same light they do as other successful men.
What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs?
You are entering a journey that is going to be full of successes and failures. It’s important to remember that neither will define you. Focus on your impact and the problem you are solving!
