As the years go by, things are rapidly changing, especially in the technology-dominated era that we currently live in. People live very different lives as opposed to what things used to be 30-40 years ago. Millennials are the ones responsible for all these things that changed in society, for better or for worse. But when it comes to balancing work and life, millennials are definitely winners. For this group of people all around the world, succeeding at work is as important as having an active social life and being involved in the community.

In today’s article, we’ll discuss how millennials manage to find the perfect balance and change the definition of working while being socially active.

Setting Life Goals

The main thing that sets millennials apart from other groups of people, is the fact that they always want to learn more. These people are eager to learn and to become the best at whatever they’re doing. In fact, research shows that more than half of the millennials desire training and a career plan from their employer.

More so, even if a millennial has an already established carrier in IT (for example), he or she will most probably be curious to learn some other things, from different domains that do not have a connection with the IT industry. It’s about setting certain life goals. Millennials want to learn how to sail a boat even if they work in an office. They want to learn 2 other languages and be socially active, travel and have fun, while being great at the their job. They know what they want, they go out, and they get it.

Saved by Technology

For the topic of this article, we’ll have to address the elephant in the room. Millennials are the people who have developed this crazy, fastpaced, digital world that we live in. With the technology that we have today, you can have a work colleague in India, one in US and one in France, and you can all work on the same thing, at the same time.

Millennials are the first people that experienced working in an office but doing it from home. With an  ‘work from home’ policy in place, millennials can be much more flexible with their schedules. It is easier to create a healthy environment in your home when you have the chance to work directly from there.

This generation of people are the most capable at multitasking. It’s not unusual to see a millennial working from home, who makes time to go outside and mow the lawn during a 30-minute break.

Redefining Work

Most millennials are sick and tired of being constantly blamed by older generations for everything. This group of people, the millennials (or generation Y), carry a heavy weight on their shoulders, as they’re being blamed for destroying the planet and changing the entire world all around us for the worst.

In fact, people fail to see that how these young people influence our world nowadays, with their incredibile ambition and inspiring life goals.

A common practice amongst millennials is to take a realworld problem and transform it into actual work. Indeed, millennials are the ones who create entire organisations and movements in order to change the world for the better. This is just one of the many ways how they changed the definition of the word ‘work’.

It is impressive how they manage to make a living and sustain a full social life, and sometimes, how they manage to combine the two concepts and make the world a better place.

Millennials are the ones who face the most backlash from the rest of the world. They are blamed for being the ‘lazy generation’ or for raising unhealthy, uneducated kids. But people usually fail to really see the real generation Y. In fact, millennials are people who really want to get something important out of their lives; it’s not all about work. More than 60% of millennials say they want to make the world a better place. By combining all of the aspects mentioned above in one powerful work ethic and a strong willingness to learn, millennials are the ones who will be able to change the definition of balance between life and the workplace for the better.
