Life is a battlefield. Pat Benatar wrote that. She wasn’t wrong. Life can get pretty confusing, and messy.

We’re constantly looking around for someone to help us. Someone to believe in us. Someone to give us a break. It doesn’t matter who you are in this world. If you think you don’t need anyone, guess again.

We all need someone to buy our products, gives us money, hire us, love us, trade with us, support us.

We came into this world needing care. Someone had to feed us, cloth us, help us in some way. We didn’t come into this world alone. Even if abandoned, you still had someone care for you when you were a baby.

At the center of all of this is, you. You trying to lead your life within the conditions that you’re currently in. Life conditions that are based on many determining factors. Where you were born, the circumstances in which you were born, your environment, your family, or absence of family. The abundance or lack of love you received. The list is long and yet I hope this helps to illustrate the point that some have to wrestle with challenging life conditions that can test the very depth of ones soul. Others will have an easier go of it.

However, I do know that it is your fortitude that gives you the ability to be resilient and adaptable. This strength and determination give you (even if it’s a glimmer within you) a greater chance of creating the life that you want to see for yourself.

Here’s where I’m going to ask you to pause. This is where you need to ask yourself the tough question: “Do I believe I’m worthy of being my truth?

Your truth could be:

  • You always wanted to be [fill in the blank] but settled for [fill in the blank] instead,
  • You want to go back to school and learn something new, but you feel you’re too old,
  • Your armor is that you’re a tough guy, but really, you’re nothing like that,
  • You appear to be sweet and shy, but really you have so much to say,
  • You want to be honest with someone you care about, but are afraid to have the conversation,
  • You are angry about people who have hurt you but are afraid to approach them,
  • You know you’re great at something but are too afraid to do it,
  • You are afraid, and you don’t know how to ask for help,
  • You want to make changes in your life but are too afraid to make changes,
  • You are an independent person but feel tied down in a relationship that’s not working,
  • You want a greater voice at work but are afraid you’ll get fired,
  • You help others before you help yourself,
  • You live with constant guilt and want to stop feeling controlled,
  • You want to live your life your way but don’t know how.

These are just a few examples. If nothing from this list resonates with you, then keep going.

It’s time to declare your truth. What exactly is your truth? Lay it out. Make a list. Write it down. Don’t think about it. Feel it. Just start writing.

It’s time. Stop wrestling with yourself and start embracing who you are.
