Global Water Crisis

The world is currently undergoing a global water crisis, which disproportionally affects those living in nations in political turmoil, crumbling or grossly ignored infrastructures, or do not have the resources to combat the humanitarian disaster.

The United States has also been slow in adapting to the water crisis issue, due to many in the country ignoring the science behind climate change. However, climate change influenced water shortages will remain a cause of turmoil in the Middle East and other conflict zones across the world – despite the unnecessary politics surrounding the issue of climate change.

Current metrics paint a bleak future by the year 2040 regarding water scarcity around the world. If current measures surrounding climate change remain consistent, numerous nations will undergo humanitarian, economic, and probable political disaster due to the lack of usable water.

Millennials Wanting To Be Agents Of Change

Millenials (I reference as being born between the years 1981 – 1997) are overwhelmingly interested in working for brands and being a part of organizations which are dedicated to social progress, Lakeborn is a company which set on a mission to help defeat global water shortage – forming around the desire to help provide sustainable water for those in need.

Lakeborn was founded by Robert Grilli and Josh Parente. The mission statement set forth by the company makes their goals and social activity clear:

Lakeborn is a lifestyle apparel brand where for every Lakeborn product purchased, one person is provided clean water for one year. The idea came about when we realized we were consuming 2.5 litres of water per day to stay healthy, while people in other parts of the world cannot even get a glass of clean water. So we thought about how we could promote healthy living and proper hydration domestically while helping those in the world who don’t have this basic human necessity. From that, Lakeborn was created. More than 2.4 billion people in the world lack access to clean water and basic sanitation. Lakeborn wants to help lead the charge in ending the Global Water Crisis and supports Water.org by contributing proceeds to help change lives with water. Our goal is simple, provide the resources needed to help those without access to clean water and promote healthy active living. Join us in creating #TheRippleEffect

Analysis

After drafting my personal story on wanting to be an agent of change, I was glad to receive a tip concerning Lakeborn. Current estimates state up to four billion individuals live in conditions labeled as water scarcity across the globe, two – thirds of the world’s population. According to their website, Lakeborn has already been able to help provide nine-hundred-thirty-nine individuals with drinking water due to the purchases of their customers.

It will take a global initiative to provide suitable drinking water for everyone around the globe. Brands such as Lakeborn are setting an example of placing the well being of humanity over maximizing profits at any cost while ignoring the plight of the less fortunate.

Water.org was founded by Gary White and Matt Damon and are an organization working to provide water and sanitation to communities across the world.
