Do you have a set routine that could benefit from positive self-talk and confidence? If you find yourself going through the motions each day without a proper appreciation of your unique and wonderful qualities, then it may be time for a mindset shift.

You wake up, make breakfast, get ready for work, walk the dog or get the kids ready for school, and rush to meet deadlines. But do you take any moments to promote self-love and pride in your hard work?

It’s a lot of work taking care of yourself and the people that you love. So let’s take a closer look at why it’s important to focus on your own well-being too, and simple steps you can take.

What the Research Says About Positive Affirmations

Research shows that “affirmations can decrease stress, increase well being, improve academic performance and make people more open to behavior change.” There is also a connection between affirmation and neural reward pathways. So even just a minute each day devoted to these affirmations can lead to positive changes mentally.

How Burnout Improved My Appreciation for Affirmations

When I was in the thick of burnout, the last thing I felt capable of was finding positive words of affirmation and saying them to myself. Forget about believing them. I felt like I was already picking up the fragments of everything else in my life. And there was nothing left in my tank.

But looking back, even just focusing on one positive daily affirmation could have been something to hold onto. To lift me up. Because after all, our health isn’t just physical, it’s our mental and emotional well-being too.

So, I’ve created a list of 10 positive affirmations to help you on your journey toward more self-compassion, and inner joy.

Remember, small steps can get you to the top of the mountain.

Here are 10 powerful affirmations to start saying and believing for more self love.

  1. I am my own best friend.

  3. I deserve joy and happiness.
  4. My beauty radiates from within.
  5. I am strong and capable.
  6. I appreciate each unique part of myself, inside and out.
  7. I am perfectly imperfect.
  8. I am proud of my growth from life’s experiences.

  10. I celebrate all that I am.

Why These Phrases are Important

Do you have recurring thoughts about yourself that you wouldn’t feel comfortable voicing to others? Have you gotten too comfortable with negative self-talk?

Unfortunately, the negative inner voice humans have is all too common. It’s draining and unnecessary and blunts you from being your best self. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t change that narrative and learn to be your own best friend.

Taking Action with Affirmations

Use gratitude and self-love as a way to find the light during darker times, and to build your confidence. At the beginning or end of each day, write down or verbalize one positive affirmation.

If there is an affirmation that really resonates, stick to only one for a while. Then move onto another when the timing feels right. You know yourself best, so be patient, and remind yourself of the unlocked potential that self-love can bring.

My book, From Burnout to Balance, also provides key strategies to overcome burnout and show yourself love through new lifestyle habits and healthy eating.
