As depression is taking toll on the masses, and so many people are apparently depressed for various reasons. So, it is time to take mental health on a SOS mode

The culture we have created has made us dumb and scared to talk about our own feelings. We cannot talk freely about how we are feeling when it comes to our mental and physical health. This is changing but not it is still not enough.

We need everything that we know about it out in the open so it becomes a discussion in our daily life and conversation with our friends and family over lunch or coffee.

We all know that stress, anxiety, depression are very common and yet we are not doing as much as we should. Even though science has made remarkable steps in this but we are a long way to go.

So what can we do meantime in our daily life when your psychologist, coach, friends, family or teacher is not around?

Here are my 7action plan that I have used on myself

Maintain good health

Put your health before everything else.

Eat a healthy and balanced diet

Make sure you get at least 7 to 8 hours of a sound sleep every day according to your body type and needs.

An active lifestyle can do wonders for your physical as well as mental health. Make exercise like yoga, walking, or gym a part of your daily routine.  Add a 5 minute meditation and quite time for yourself where you reflect about how you have spent day.

Regular health check-ups.

Be proactive when it comes to healthcare. Routine check-ups can help detect issues early on, resulting in better chances of treatment and cure. This includes ultra sounds, pap, dental and so on.

Enjoy a little ‘me time’

Spare some time for yourself from your busy schedule and use it to do things that you enjoy. Indulge in a hobby, read, listen to some music, go for a walk or gardening – anything that can help you unwind and connect with yourself!

 Ditch unhealthy habits

Steer clear of smoking, regular consumption of alcohol, drugs and the other unhealthy habits like binge eating too much screen time, excessive procrastination or not getting enough sleep.

Invest time in building relationships

We as a human community need our friends, family members, colleagues or others in the community for our well-being. we all are interdependent on each other with us being aware of it. It is important for us as human beings to be sociable and work on building a ‘tribe’ of like-minded and bankable folks who make you feel valued and will stand by you in times of need.

Random Act of Compassion

You can boost your own happiness by helping others. This can give you a sense of purpose. Random acts of kindness or regular volunteering, everything counts! Good deeds trigger positive emotions which is good for your own mental health.

There’s no shame in asking for help

Finally, remember that we all have days when we feel down. If it is getting tough to cope with everyday life, reach out and ask for help. Talk to a friend, a loved one or seek the help of a mental health professional. Do whatever it takes to regain your peace of mind.
