Why did you decide to create your own business?

I decided to create my own business because I recognized there was a need for what I do. In the event space, there were not a lot of places you could go to find quality resources, so we decided to create that space.

What do you love most about the industry you are in?

For me, there are several things I love about the faith-based event industry but the most obvious one for me is the opportunity to see real life change. Few things are more rewarding then knowing that you’ve impacted people on multiple levels.

 What keeps you motivated?

The subject of motivation is extremely important because I think it can be more revelatory that we give it credit for. I am of the belief that oftentimes people fail to maintain their motivation because they are in areas, they don’t really belong in. For me, the thing that keeps me motivated is the knowledge that I am operating in my purpose.

 How do you motivate others?

The way I motivate others is the same way I motivate myself. It’s important that we keep pointing people back to purpose and vision.

How has your company grown from its early days to now?

One of the most exciting things for me as a founder has been seeing the growth of my company. I think the most obvious area of our growth is numerical because we literally went from 50 to 5,000 over the course of 7 events. In addition to numbers though, we have grown in the area of the experience we offer. At this point, we just don’t host events…we create experiments and that’s been a growing process for us.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I am a firm believer that inspiration is literally everywhere. I think one of the keys to our growth is that we refuse to be underexposed as far as what others are doing. Because of this, I draw inspiration from everything ranging from other faith-based events to events in other industries. I believe we can learn from anything…even if it’s what not to do.

What suggestions do you have for someone starting in your industry?

I would tell anyone that wants to host conferences or other events to make sure they have a solid why before they begin. It’s easy to see what others are doing and decide to do the same out of a sense of competition, but it’s crucial that you’re clear on the why before launching.

 What is your biggest accomplishment?

Through the Young Leaders Conference, we have done some really great work to help others but I think the biggest thing so far was making history as the first faith based event to host 5 presidential candidates as well as paying off $1.6 million dollars’ worth of medical debt for those facing bankruptcy.
