I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Justin Mandel, DOM AP LAC who’s a medical entrepaneur. He’s the founder and developer of the TrapEAZE Technique®, which is the first specific treatment for upper back pain. He’s also the co-developer of the Freedom Belt®, which is a post surgical drainage belt for patients who have a catheter with a drainage bag.

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Becoming a medical entrepreneur really developed out of my ongoing work with inventing a patented rehabilitation treatment for Overactive Bladder (OAB) called the Bladder RE-EXPANSION Technique®, which has been reviewed by Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Duke, as well as many top urology hospitals. As a general practitioner who also worked with pain patient’s for over 15 years I was able to treat certain populations of patients, which allowed me to gain a lot more experience with certain conditions than others.

How have your personal challenges informed your career path?

Like anyone else I’ve definitely had my own fair share of health situations arise along the way. Being a patient ones self serves to show you how you can become improve to become a better practitioner. As a patient you get to see how others treat you in terms of friendliness (for example), how they question you, how thorough they are etc. By observing others while in an opposite role you ultimately see how you yourself want to be treated and ideally you’ll want to emulate that. It can make a huge difference in how patients perceive you because you end up following the “golden rule”, since you want to be treated as others treat you.

Can you share five pieces of advice to other doctors/clinicians/healers to help their patients to thrive?

  1. Listen enthusiastically to your patients. As healthcare practitioners listening is perhaps the most important skill we can illicit. Often times a treasure trove of information will be revealed just by remaining quiet and hearing out what someone’s trying to express to us.
  2. Physical examination is absolutely fundamental. If you’re treating patients especially for pain, and you’re only reading the radiologists impressions about your patients spine than you’re simply not doing your job. Physical exam reveals a tremendous amount of information. You are doing yourself, your practice, or your patients justice by not throughly physically examining them.
  3. Think outside of the box. As the quote goes, “necessity is the mother of invention”. Sometimes we are able to innovate brand new methods to treat the same health condition that has perplexed us in the past.
  4. Do your research. With fantastic amounts of clinical data readily available on PUBMED it’s a mistake not to consult what’s easily accessible. You can make much better informed decisions about how to proceed with your patients through researching different topics and retooling your approach as needed.
  5. Join a mastermind. It can be truly mind expanding to meet with like minded colleagues. Meetings can stimulate you to think radically different and propel yourself to be even better than you are. I’ve been blessed to have two medical doctors that routinely challenge me (and vice versa) and help me to soar to new heights that I never would’ve ascended to on my own.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Do you have a story about how that was relevant to your life?

“If you don’t make a plan for yourself, someone will make a plan for you”is a phrase that came to me in 1999. At the time I realized that unless you are forging your own path than someone will pull you away from your rightful destiny.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

A brand new exciting movement is already under way! Until now patient’s in pain simply didn’t have a special therapy that they could seek out that was specifically for their upper back.

When we look at the current landscape of easily accessible treatments currently available we see that they all can really treat any body part. And that means those treatments can’t always be effective at treating upper back pain.

The patent-pendingTrapEAZE Technique® is the first upper back pain treatment that’s specifically been developed for upper back pain. It’s a 4-step system that methodically reaches down to the root of ones pain starting from the very first treatment. This life changing treatment works with laser-like precision to rehabilitate the fibrous bundles of muscle that causes ones nagging chronic pain the first place.

With so many milllions of patients who suffer from upper back pain it’s about time that a non-invasive, non-surgical, non-opioid treatment is finally available for those living with chronic pain. These days the trend is that more and more patient’s are going in the direction of natural treatments so this is a firm step in that direction.

It’s been said by those that are knowledgeable about it that 1,000 practitioners in the United States alone could easily be using theTrapEAZE Technique® in the future to benefit their patients. In my mind that’s a good start, but the bottom line is that the global medical industry needs to switch gears and shift into a direction like this for the betterment of medicine itself. The time is amongst us where all natural highly effective treatments like this need to be recommended by respected medical authorities who have the ability to positively impact masses of patient’s lives.
