Be authentically you. Be you, share your truth and speak from your heart and you will be brilliant. You are your brand and you are why people want to work with you, so don’t be someone or something that you are not. Share your wins, but also be open if something might not be going exactly how you would have hoped. People want to be able to relate to you. Be truthful and authentic in each moment, just be you.

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path as a self-love coach?

From a very young age, I have always known that I have wanted to help and serve others. My great grandmother, who lived to be 101, was a nurse “in the olden days.” We would play nurse and perform surgeries and checkups on one another, this is when I decided (by age 5 or so) that I would become a nurse and help others, too. By the age of 21, I graduated as a RN, and I loved caring for patients at the bedside. There is always something exciting to learn, many new opportunities to be had and continued growth each and every day.

After several years, I felt that something was missing, that I wanted to keep caring for people in a larger/different capacity and wanted to keep challenging myself to grow. I enrolled in graduate school to obtain my Masters degree and become family nurse practitioner. I graduated last year taking on a new roll becoming a “primary care provider.” This has been an exciting change full of autonomy and expansion.

After I graduated school, I had a short break in between roles and really had time to work on myself, time to truly “fall in love with myself” again. I began daily personal development, implemented a daily gratitude practice and really spent time cultivating my own radical self-love journey. I nourished my body and spent time going on hikes and exercising. I spent time getting back to all the things that made me enjoy life to the fullest.

With my experience in healthcare and passion for self-love and self development I was inspired to begin With Love, Megan and become a Self-Love and Development Coach. I have always felt a calling to serve, to reach more women and to help in a larger capacity; to make massive impact. Using social media platforms has allowed me to integrate all of the teachings and practices that I am so passionate about, to serve with purpose and to make a true impact and change worldwide.

How have your personal challenges informed your career path?

My personal challenges have most definitely shaped me as a person, led me to become a nurse and now nurse practitioner as well as my decision to become a self-love and development coach and serve globally.

As my time serving others throughout nursing and within the medical field I have seen and helped so many with their physical struggles and ailments. I always try to serve with a smile, kindness and compassion and treat others the way I would want to be treated or the way I would want my family and loved ones to be cared for.

Being at the bedside, in administration and now in the role of a primary care provider there is not always time to get past the physical conditions and the acute needs into the real depths of the psychosocial issues, the “spiritual and mental” aspects if you will of what people may be struggling with. Often as a provider there is just time to “skim off of the top” but you know there is so much more work that needs to be done.

I have struggled in the past with my own health, nutrition, stress, overwhelm, mindset and anxiety. When I was in graduate school, I worked as nurse at night and went to school during the day to complete my degree. I was often exhausted and said no rarely, a true people pleaser. I was also going through a very challenging divorce during the middle of my schooling. At times I felt self-care or practicing regular self-love was “selfish” as I know so many others do. I felt that so many others were relying on me and that there were so many other things that I needed to get done; how could I possible slow down or take a break? In fact during that time my self-doubt and negative self talk was at an all time high.

These times when I was most challenged, felt most vulnerable or felt completely exposed; I was not always sure of who to turn to, if or when to ask for help or at times felt ashamed to ask, feeling that this was a sign of weakness.

It was really through overcoming my own struggles and rising up, becoming even stronger when I found my passion and calling to begin coaching woman. To help them make their own transformations, to take control of their lives and to make massive mindset shifts to overcome their fears, reach their wildest dreams and to design a life that they love.

Can you share your “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Became a Self-Love Coach”

  2. Just start. No matter how scary things seem keep in mind that “the largest fears carry your greatest growths”. It doesn’t matter how perfect your ideas are or how perfect your website is, it just matters that you start. If you never start, you will never get out there, no one will ever hear your message and know what you have to share. You will never start serving your clients and you will never start making impact or change. It’s the change and challenge that will make you better, stronger, smarter and more confident. If you are uncomfortable, it means your likely growing for the better and also making a change and impact on someone else!
  3. Nail Your Niche. Know your why, know exactly who you are serving and learn how you can best serve them. Focus on understanding their struggles, learning their interests and really taking into consideration the best ways that you can bring value into your content daily. Give ten times more value to your clients before you ask anything from them! That is one of the best tips I think anyone could have shared with me as a coach.
  4. You will make mistakes and that is ok. Choose to learn from those mistakes and make them opportunities. Instead of thinking “why did that happen to me” think, “this is happening for me”. Trust that everything happens for a reason and that things will truly align for you at the absolute perfect times and you will connect with exactly who you are meant to serve exactly how you are meant to serve them.
  5. Create a strong morning ritual. We all have the power to purposefully set our intentions that will shape and focus our world. What we create internally, what we reflect on and the vibes that we release into the universe will become our reality. When we learn to set our intentions purposefully each and every day with joy, gratitude and positivity that is how we are going to feel and those are the feelings that we will reflect onto others and also call into our lives and into our work.

Social media and reality TV create a venue for people to share their personal stories. Do you think more transparency about your personal story can help or harm your field of work? Can you explain?

It seems that today more than ever people crave that transparency and want to know and connect with you through social media/reality TV as much as possible. I feel that this can be both helpful and harmful.

This can help to build that “know, like and trust” in relationships very quickly. It cultivates true meaningful relationships and allows you to become relatable. This gives your client/customer the ability to get to know you, peek into your life on a regular basis and even go along with you on exciting new adventures, trips, sneak peeks, house hunting trips, launches, and to allow your audience to see how you live day to day.

I think it can also be harmful in a society that puts extreme pressures for women and men to act a certain way, show up and to appear that things are “picture perfect”.

Coming to the realization that not everything is going to be perfect and using the mantra of: “progress over perfection” can be a huge game changer.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Do you have a story about how that was relevant to your life?

My favorite life lesson quote is by Marianne Williamson from the book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

This is a quote that I have come back to time and time again over the years. It has given me strength in many situations. Often when an opportunity arises in my life for example a new job, moving to a new city, receiving an invitation to speak at an event it is my fear that I am inadequate. This fear creeps in and I have to constantly work on my mindset and put that fear to rest. Realizing that this is a self-limiting belief, “my inner mean girl” at its finest and remind myself that greatness is just on the other side of fear.

I have this taped in my office and on my mirror as a reminder that no matter how much fear I may have, no task is too great for me to take on. I know that if I was too scared to take the state boards I would not be helping all of the sick people in need that come into my office to see me each and every day. If I lived in fear of being on video and speaking in public I would have never have started my business and would not be connecting with and serving amazing woman across the world today. Each and everyday I use this quote as a reminder to keep moving forward.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

I would love to start a movement of women supporting other women through public events and meetups with the premise that when you do the work on yourself your whole word shifts.

Society says you shouldn’t love yourself or that is selfish. But why not? Who are we not to love who we are? That is definitely not selfish.

We are the change we need to see. True strength lies when we all come together.

It is my dream to come together in collaboration, women celebrating each others differences, our strengths, sharing our love and passion for life, our love for one another and most importantly our love for ourselves. Truly lifting each other up and stepping into the most beautiful and powerful version of ourselves in community.
