Your local community is much more than where your home resides. It’s a local network where you can connect and build relationships with others. While you may not initially think so, participating in a community event can hold so many different benefits for both you and your neighbor. With the current COVID-19 pandemic in the height of its activity and many of us actively practicing social distancing, community events might not be in the foreseeable future plans. However, as we slowly return to normalcy, they’re a great way to engage with others and build your local community. Here are a few key reasons why community events are important:

Fosters Inspiration

When you spend time with your community, you’ll be sure to learn something new. Community events inspire others to be creative and invest in their passions and ideas. Find others with similar interests to yours. Keep in mind; your community doesn’t have to be limited to your local area. Use social media as a platform to connect with other communities based on personal interests. Platforms like Facebook have community groups for almost anything! Facebook community groups are a great way to share ideas and thoughts with other like-minded members; some Facebook groups hold their own community meet-ups and events to help connect you to different people.

Improves Mental Health

Connecting with others plays a vital role in your mental health. As many of us are currently experiencing self-isolation with social distancing practices in place, human interaction is important! Interacting with others is a great way to combat mental health struggles and improve your happiness.

Build Social Skills

Sometimes being social can be easier said than done. Many people experience forms of social anxiety that make it challenging to communicate with others. However, sometimes taking the extra push to be social can help more than you think. Utilize community events to build new relationships with others and improve how you communicate and interact. Though it may seem uncomfortable at first, it’s a great way to help you grow in a social setting.

A Great Way to Give Back

Community events are a fantastic way to give back to those in need. Organized events like clothing and food drives, donation banks, and other fundraising events are a fun way to connect with other people in your area while paying it forward.
