Recently I had a realisation when answering an interview. I was asked who inspires you? My answer was MYSELF. It just came out naturally, without even thinking. Since that moment I’ve been thinking about how I inspire myself and I’ve been noticing so much.
I now smile at myself in the mirror (3 years ago I cried when I looked in the mirror).
I now confidently talk to people and make friends (3 years ago I didn’t talk to anyone new and struggled with people I did know).
I now wake up feeling happy and energised (3 years ago I struggled to get out of bed).
I now use my challenges to support other women (3 years ago I didn’t want to live).
I realised I am an inspiration. I am worthy. I am successful.
You can have this realisation too. The journey will take consistency, strength and perseverance but believe me when I say it is more than worth it.
I know you can do it. If I can anyone can. So believe in yourself. Believe you are worthy. Believe you deserve and go at get that life you want.
How to overcome mental health struggles
Talk to someone
This is the first step and is so important. Speak to someone, anyone. A family member, friend or medical professional. Talking about how your feeling will help so much. As the saying goes “a problem shared is a problem halved” it will feel so much better to know you don’t have to face it alone. Choose to talk to someone that you know will support you and encourage you.
Journal
Writing down your feelings is a great way to get them off your chest. It is also a great way to track your thoughts and triggers and you can notice anything that happens consistently that causes you suffering. When writing down negative thoughts it is good to then write a lesson you have learned from it and how you will move on going forward. For example if you write “today I got nervous while shopping alone and had a panic attack” your lesson could be “next time I am alone and have a panic attack I will use mindfulness to be in the present moment, using my senses and surroundings to keep me grounded”
Mindfulness technique for anxiety
In moments of anxiety a great tool to use is mindfulness. Using your senses and surrounding find:
5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
Believe in yourself and allow yourself the time to work on yourself daily. Add personal development habits into your day to improve your mindset and happiness.
