” Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” (Melody Beattie)

For me practicing gratitude is one of the greatest sources that human beings can draw from.

The truth is that there is a difference between gratitude as an exercise and gratitude as a “spontaneous” motion.

Gratitude as an exercise is an extremely useful “tool” that should be practiced daily.

Once I start a path with a new client I always suggest them to create a “gratitude Journal” to write on daily basis at least one thing that they are grateful for each day.

How can we create something new in life, if we are not able to thank for what has been and what we have achieved so far?

We cannot plan the future goals without thanking the present and the achievements gained through our journey so far.

Often in the Western world we forget it, we are always full of expectations and complaints about what “we don’t have” instead focusing on what we “have”.  It looks like a cliché and it is, but unfortunately it is true.

The first thing I’ve learned, as soon as I landed for the first time in a Hindu country, it is that in the morning when we wake up it is good practice to offer something to the Divine for the day to come,  and in the evening to thank for all that we have received on that day.

I’ve made this practice mine however there are days when I also forget it.

But suddenly the gratitude that is “spontaneous” arrives, the one that often comes after a dark time, the one that is unexpected, and it arise when we are in contact with the deepest part of ourselves.

I compare this gratitude to a warm light that embrace me, it is a sense of fullness that when arrives makes you see everything with different eyes. It makes you feel “safe” because that kind of gratitude is connected to the trust and faith, in the Divine within us, in what it is and it will be and then suddenly you feel safe and in the right place.

It is a feeling that is also difficult to put into words because simply ‘is’.

Who have experimented this state in their life knows well what it is,  it cannot be compared to anything else and it is an accessible place for all of us.

Who asks me “but how can I experience it”?

With the perseverance of finding every day a good reason to be grateful, giving space to that deepest and most wonderful part of ourselves that can take us there.

The key is to trust and accept the situation even when this light is not there, because if we accept the dark then we are ready to embrace the light when it arrives.

” Gratitude for the present moment and the fullness of life Now is true prosperity” (Eckhart Tolle)
