Should Happiness Hurt Your Health?

The pursuit of happiness is nothing new. People try to find it in all kinds of ways. Some of those ways can be good for you, like exercising or traveling more, but some people do things that aren’t too good for their health in order to feel happy.

Smoking, for example, is a vice that could be hurtful, especially if the cigarette has additives. This activity might make you happy, but moderation is important because no one should hurt him or herself to feel peace. Signs of Life Imbalance

As you can see, a lot of things you enjoy could be taking a toll on you. Some are obvious like smoking but others aren’t like partying, which could be reducing sleep quality if you do it too much.

To-Do’s are Overwhelming

One way to know that you may be taking on too much is if you can feel it. Most people have days where everything seems to pile up, and you hardly have time to rest.

These types of hectic days are relatively normal, but the problem is when they happen every day. Try to cut the fat at this point, and remove anything that isn’t essential from your day. Dealing with seemingly everlasting hectic days is not good for your health, so try to address this as soon as you can.

Priorities are Losing

Everyone has priorities that could make or break them. Most people can get these things done, but a person who is doing too much might begin to neglect priorities.

If you notice that your priorities are getting pushed to the side, it may be time to reevaluate the way you use your time, even if you have time for fun. This may be hard, but you cannot let your life get away from you simply because you aren’t keeping your eyes on the prize.

Stress is Peaking

Sometimes, you think you have a handle on things, yet you still feel stressed. Perhaps a priority creeps up on you, and now you are stressing about getting that done.

Several episodes of this kind of stress could mean a person is allowing something to take up too much of his or her time. The thing that is taking up time could be something that makes you feel happy, like partying or binge-watching television. These things may be awesome, but you need to moderate so you can still get other things done.

Meal Skipping

You might be surprised to find out that one thing people do when they feel overwhelmed is skip meals. This is relatively understandable; not only is meal preparation a time-consuming act, but everything involved with meal prep could be easily overlooked, like grocery shopping.

Those who are skipping meals more often or just eating snacks throughout the day rather than a balanced meal may be doing this to compensate for other activities. Having a balanced diet is pretty important, and your body cannot provide the energy you require if you aren’t feeding it as well as you should.

It is important that you evaluate your time. Perhaps write everything you do in a day to see what might need to be eliminated or trimmed just a bit. No one is saying you need to completely cut things that make you happy, but they can be reduced just a bit. Identifying if you are doing too much and regaining balance will likely give you peace, which is a whole new level of happiness.
