I had the pleasure of interviewing Kjord Davis, an accomplished yoga, meditation, healer and teacher. Kjord is the owner and founder of Indigo Lab LA, a health and wellness brand, as well as transformation artist of the soul; transforming places, spaces and faces.

Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path as a doctor or healer?

My first foyer into transformation was drawing and creating art as a child. Sketching the dimensions of sports cars was my favorite. I also played the piano for 14 years and noticed how music was a universal language. I could say in chords what I could not say in words. As a young adult I learned the art of makeup and was in awe at how subtle application of makeup could lighten a mood, bring a smile to a face or simply and instantly instill confidence. In my 30’s I found yoga that offered the tools to create that same inner transformation. I connected with Kundalini Yoga, a well rounded practice that offers tools for healing, personal growth and the ability to create a peaceful space and structure in world that seems so chaotic.

How have your personal challenges informed your career path?

I have always had an outside perspective being raised in a staunch religious community.

It gave me the drive to search for something more-something that included me. I never felt wrong about who I was until my surroundings informed me so. I forgot who I was….Naturally that led to leaving the city I grew up in and set me on a path of following my heart. I found myself in corporate leadership roles due to my work ethic and my ability to drive results by connecting and inspiring a shared vision with a group of people. I went from running one of the “hottest” bars on Sunset Blvd to sitting in a yoga studio in stillness quieting the waves of my mind. I chose to become a yoga and meditation teacher to support others on their journey of reflection, reconnection and recalibration that I once received. My favorite place is the teachers bench as ironically I become the student again. I am inspired everyday by how students show up to meet the pressure yoga deliciously offers or to set in meditation and to simply BE. I have so many moments of “I am the luckiest guy in the world to be able to hold space like this”.

Can you share your “5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Became a Healer”

– CREATE YOUR PATH. Be inspired by others but follow your own inner compass.

– If you BELIEVE it, you can create it. Stay focused, do the work and be patient.

– KNOW YOUR VALUE. There has never been, nor will there ever be, YOU!

– USE DISCERNMENT. Ask yourself if what is being communicated feels right FOR YOU. On the spiritual path beware of anything that seems exclusive or states you have to wear something, eat something or do something that doesn’t feel in alignment for you.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Do you have a story about how that was relevant to your life?

I am who I am and that is that. I am who you are looking back. You are who I am can you imagine that. There is one source and that is a fact.

Social media and reality TV create a venue for people to share their personal stories. Do you think more transparency about your personal story can help or harm your field of work? Can you explain?

There is a level of privacy I savor for myself, my friends and my family. This privacy gives me presence for the moment to moment experiences of my life. I do my best to keep my social media as a vehicle of connection where so often I see it disconnecting people from moments. My goal is to be available for the magic and the mystery of life’s unfolding.

From feelings of not being “good enough”, “worthy enough”, “brave enough”- heck all the enoughs!! This quote reminds us that we are who we are for a reason. Our uniqueness is our gift to embrace. It empowers us to step up and into our unique role. It inspires the awakening of our hearts and minds to the fact that we are one and through that connection we are able to serve this miraculous life with all the facets of our being and in turn, reflect and respect everyone else’s path.

You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

Remembrance. Remembering why we came here, what we are here to do and that we ALL have a voice and a message the world desperately needs in these times. We must rise up and answer that call to serve the needs of this time and space.
