Seems like social media has taken over the world, huh? It’s no wonder some people have felt like they needed to escape the digital world and stay more in-tune with reality…but that can be challenging considering that business, communication, and everyone’s attentions have shifted online. We sat down with social media influencer Roy Taylor and gathered some insightful tips on how to stay on top of your digital world- without letting it take over.
1. Don’t Use Social Media Right When You Wake Up:
How you start your day can dramatically influence your mood, energy, and overall experience of the day! Don’t start your day with Emails, Notifications, or text messages from co-workers, family, & friends- instead, start your morning phone-free & use those extra few minutes (or for some us, few hours) to get outside, read, stimulate your mind, exersize or meditate. These activities wake your brain up, pump you full of energy, and increase positive hormones that will make your day so much better!
2. Delete The Apps You’re Constantly Checking:
We get it, this might be a hard pill to swallow, but you’ve got to admit to yourself which apps are actually stressing you out more than creating an enjoyable experience! Sometimes just deleting that photo-browsing app or Facebook (for all your endless-feed scrollers) so you aren’t constantly worried about new notifications, messages, and puppy videos, can significantly decrease the time spent on your phone!
3. Turn Off Pesky Notifications:
Turning off notifications can definitely be easier than breaking up with your favorite apps, so try this out and get some free-time from those seemingly nonstop alerts coming in from Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, Tumblr, etc etc. This helps reduce clutter & lets you open your phone to important messages & alerts rather than a swarm of notifications every time you glance at the screen.
Ultimately, social media isn’t leaving anytime soon, but you can learn to control it, rather than it controlling you. Realizing that the missing element in your life is spending more quality time in real life, will help you balance the two and create a great experience online.
