It is not usual for an article title to start with I Don’t.
But in order to make things better, to change and to evolve there are things we simply don’t do.
So here is the list:
I don’t assume. Instead, I ask questions and learn.
I don’t burn bridges because I come to egotistical conclusions. Instead, I keep an open mind and don’t behave like a spoiled child.
I don’t turn my back to people who have stood by me through the years, because I came to the assumption that they “betrayed” me. Instead, I talk to them and find the truth.
I don’t keep hunting people down to keep in touch. Instead, I let them go. Any relationship is a two-way street.
I don’t accept rudeness. Instead, I choose to distance myself.
I don’t answer to anyone about my life’s decisions. Instead, I live by my decisions and people who genuinely respect me will stand by me.
I don’t jump to assumptions. Instead, I try to find out the reason of any situation before I pass judgment.
I don’t hate. Instead, I live and let live.
We are here to live to the best of our abilities, to learn, to grow, to evolve, to mature and to give others the right to do the same.
Anything less, is petty, pointless, selfish, and ego driven.
There is nothing in life that allows us to pass judgment about ANYONE before we know their truth, their story and the reasons behind any of their actions.
We do not live expecting respect. We earn it and we work to keep it.
All this applies to our personal AND professional lives. We can never assume, judge, be rude and simply turn our backs to people just because we are selfish, insecure, and think that only we have the right to behave a certain way.
We learn so that we know better.
And as Maya Angelou said: We know better so that we can do better.
