What is your current role, and how do you remain productive?

I am the Senior Managing Partner, so it is imperative that I develop various strategies to remain productive throughout the day. Although goal setting is fundamental to long-term success, I also think it essential to establish limits. I play to my strengths and understand my capacity to accomplish tasks within a specific time frame. I encourage working professionals to know their mental and physical boundaries to avoid overexerting themselves.

How do you motivate your team members to achieve their goals?

As the Managing Partner, it is my primary responsibility to fuel motivation among my staff. I am a strong advocate of open communication, and I encourage my team members to voice any concerns they may have with respect to daily operations or company policies. Additionally, implementing an open-door policy allows me to help my team strategize effective solutions to better serve our clients and deliver optimal results.

How do you manage your professional commitments with family life?

I always stress that I am a family man first and a business executive second. I think it is vital to establish strict boundaries when you are in the process of defining your career prospects. For individuals looking to start a family, it is easy to prioritize professional obligations, but it is also crucial to recognize the importance of spending time with loved ones. Decide what is most important to you and find effective ways to achieve a balance.

What advice do you have for anyone who is unable to disconnect from work?

I think in today’s digital landscape it can be tempting to continuously monitor your work emails or provide a brief response to a professional inquiry. However, spending an excessive amount of time online can have a negative impact on one’s mental health. I recommend finding value in other activities you enjoy. When I am not at work, I set aside time to pray or engage in some form of exercise. Implementing a daily routine is likely to aid individuals in disconnecting from their work life.

What role did higher education play in finding your career path?

I would have to argue that formal education is fundamental to both personal and professional success. My experiences at the University of Texas not only equipped me with the knowledge required to excel in my field but also provided me various life lessons. Attending a post-secondary institution is a valuable experience in preparation for the professional sphere, and I am grateful that I was provided the opportunity to obtain an education from a prestigious university.

How do your personal values influence your professional approach to wealth management?

I am an opportunist, so I try not to live by fear, but by following new opportunities that come my way. Running a successful business is challenging, but if you fail to develop ways to embrace change and adversity, then you will not be able to compete with other industry leaders.

What advice do you have for someone who is trying to break into the wealth management industry?

I think it is crucial to establish a business that you are passionate about creating for the right reasons. I founded KM Capital Management because I take pride in helping my clients develop comprehensive wealth management strategies. I go to work and genuinely enjoy what I do and the industry that I am in.

Having passion for what you do, is what will fuel your motivation during difficult times and inspire you to achieve your long and short-term objectives.

For individuals looking to enter the financial sector, I suggest performing extensive industry research and obtaining the proper educational requirements. Secondly, I recommend seeking a mentor that can help you navigate the landscape while providing valuable insight into both their success and failed opportunities.

Outside of your career, what defines you as a person?

I attribute much of my character to my unwavering faith and relationship with God. When I am feeling discouraged, I often turn to the Bible for inspiration. In times of doubt, I rely on my faith to help me overcome any obstacles I have encountered. Taking the time to read several passages and pray each day, has significantly helped my mental well-being and enables me to make better choices in both a personal and professional capacity.

How do you prioritise your commitments?

I prioritize my commitments in terms of value. As I have mentioned before, I am a family man first and foremost, and would not sacrifice the well-being of my family for my professional career. In terms of professional obligations, I seek to accomplish the most vital tasks that will benefit the company first, and where possible, utilize the talents of my peers to ensure daily operations run smoothly. Overall, I think it essential to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and always ask for assistance when needed.
