I love a good acronym. KNIT is my current mantra that guides my conversation with folks whether written or oral. And yes Virginia, this includes texts, social media posts, emails and more.
KNIT is literally Kind, Necessary, Interesting and True. I didn’t make this up and the only source I have for KIT is a Dear Abby pamphlet “How to be Popular”.
Not sure where I got “necessary” but it is a welcome addition and necessary.
Now I like to tease and joke, but not in a way that is harmful to folks. As India.Arie says in “Get it Together”: “ . . . the words that come from your mouth you’re the first to hear. Speak words of beauty and you will always be there.”
I can and will be beautifully funny. I come in love for myself and others, so every word I communicate will be KNIT.
