22 years ago I looked in the mirror and decided I couldn’t live with
myself if I stayed in my corporate job any longer. At that time I was
the managing director for a very large p.r. company in Canada, and one
of the few senior women world wide. Although we more than ‘made our
numbers’ every quarter I felt disrespected and treated dismissively at
quarterly management meetings. The cross-Canada team was working well
together, building business, high profile successes and my salary – for
a while – made up for the general rudeness and disrespect. So when I
was asked to move to Washington or New York, I said no, and left the
company – leaving behind the golden handcuffs of excellent salary/bonus,
two secretaries, corporate travel and prestige. I downsized, sold my
house, expensive car, some art and jewelry, took time off and looked for
something to do which fulfilled my heart. I took psychology courses,
learned Reiki, color therapy training and discovered hypnosis. Took the
training and teacher training. Within months I’d opened a school and
clinic which thrived to become Canada’s largest school and clinic. This
was sold five years ago, and now I just have clinic 2-days a week, teach
at the University of Toronto and my own spiritual classes. Life is
good….even with less money than corporate.
