At Thrive Global, in honor of International Women’s Day, we’re inviting women business leaders to share how they Thrive.

Thrive Global: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about prioritizing your health and well-being?

Dr. Miranda Farage: Always practice mindfulness both in the workplace and at home. Take time to take care of both your physical and mental well-being. Spend time alone everyday.

TG: What’s the best advice that you would give women about preventing burnout? And what obstacles have you overcome in your career, particularly obstacles that had to do with your gender? What did you learn from those experiences that you wish you’d known before?

MF: You will always have people who will try to put you down, disagree with you, and fight your ideas. Always keep your integrity and values, and keep focused on what is important for you. Don’t fall into the trap of defining and changing your life based on external negativity and toxic forces. “When you lose, never lose the lesson,” and, “remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.” “Always judge your success by what you have to give up in order to get it.” “Open your arms to change, but never let go of your values.” And “remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.”

TG: How do you prioritize when you have an overwhelming amount to do?

MF: Self-discipline and mental agility.

TG: When you notice you’re getting too stressed, what do you do to course-correct?

MF: Spend some time alone and cherish every moment I have. Be grateful and thankful for what you have, as nothing in this life will last.

TG: How do you reframe negative thinking so you can feel “unstuck” and move forward?

MF: Always thrive on your mental abundance. As Covey said, “An abundance mentality springs from internal security, not from external rankings, comparisons, opinions possessions or associations.”

TG: Are there any small actions (or life “hacks”) that you swear by to help you prioritize, focus, connect with others, get solid sleep, or incorporate movement and nutrition into your life? Share any and all!

MF: “Live a good honorable and healthy life. Then, when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.”
