We are forever chasing the elusive dream of accomplishing everything perfectly with smiling children in tow” – Unknown

I read this quote and it was such an eye opener for me.
How many of us have felt like we have to be “supermom”?
When I went through my divorce to help my kids adjust I did everything to try to make sure that there was a sense of “normalcy” for them.
I wanted them to see we hadn’t skipped a beat
I wanted them to know is I was just as strong as before
I wanted them to know everything was okay
I had this delusional belief that I was capable of doing all things for all the people in my life at all times while perfectly managing myself
I know this sounds ridiculous when you actually read it out loud but it shows up in various ways
Saying yes to being the Girl Scout troop leader even when you don’t want to
Volunteering in your children’s classroom and canceling your hair appointment
Agreeing to chaperone a play date when you have forty other things on your to do list
After trying to be super mom for way too long I realized I was only hurting me!
When you’re on a plane they always say that if the plane were to go down we must first put our face mask on ourselves before we put it on our kids or those around us
As a mom that concept was CRAZY to me.
How could I not take care of them first
But the truth is unless you’re first good to yourself your no good to anyone else.
So while you’re going through your difficult time I am challenging you to reflect and ask yourself “how can I take care of me?”
