While the world’s most trending searches came from the phrases like “How to make slime”, “How to make solar eclipse glasses”, “How to buy Bitcoin” and “How to watch Mayweather vs McGregor”, Australia shared some common interest with the global arena. Ranging from making slime to spinner, from Sophie Monk to Kate Fischer, from Cyclone Debbie to North Korea, there was some tremendous volume of searches in this year 2017.
Aussies are especially keen in sports, and this has been proved by the search volume this year. The most searched query for the year included Australian Open 2017, Melbourne Cup 2017, Wimbledon 2017 , diy coolsculpting from home, followed by Fidget spinner and Cyclone Debbie.

The “What is” section showed people were more interested to know about MSG, Bitcoin, and Kimchi. With the price of Bitcoin increasing rapidly since mid-2017, more people started looking for bitcoin in Google. The following chart shows the increase of searches in information regarding Bitcoin.

Furthermore, Cyclone Debbie which damaged a property of $1.85 billion in USD, causing 14 fatalities, is the most trending news in Australia this year. The most dangerous cyclone impacting Queensland since 2011 (Source: Wikipedia) was followed by the phrases related to “North Korea” and “Amazon Australia” site.
