For years, my days (and subsequently, my life) looked like a warzone.
Chaotic, violent and loud.
Many of you will agree that even if you have your priorities straightened out, life can tend to go so wide and far, outta control that you can only be like….Oh come on! Not again!
How the hell did that happen?
What silence really does?
I am deeply touched by late. Dr. Wayne Dyer, one of the greatest spiritual teachers of our modern times. He is a great philosopher and teacher and has extensively written (over 31 books!) in his lifetime about how to live in alignment with the source, the Tao or the universe.
Why silence?
“Meditation is the art of aligning the polarities”
The physical realm is full of polarities. East-West, Male-Female, Long-Short, White-Black etc. You obviously exist in the physical because of the dualities. Meditation, especially deep levels, allows you to integrate the left and the right hemispheres of the brain called the Rational and the Intuitive brain respectively. This allows you to look at your problems with a new perspective.
Okay, so what happens when you start your day with silence?
- You are more relaxed: Your body and energies are directly influenced by your thoughts. So you feel relaxed and centered throughout the day.
- You are in control: Yes, you feel control of situations and overwhelming emotions don’t take their toll on you.
- You understand people well: My personal and professional life is hugely benefited because of the space between my thoughts. Instead of jumping to conclusions and quick judgmental decisions, I pause and listen. This has been such a dramatic shift in understanding people and where they’re coming from.
- You develop patience: Perhaps the greatest personal attribute to nature is patience. And it is a fantastic quality to imbibe. Patience in situations where you need to make sales, when the things break down and clients don’t respond helps a lot. As Guns n Roses sang, “All we need is just a lil patience”
- You are happier: This is true. I am happy. That doesn’t mean that I jump off the roofs and keep jumping, happiness is not enthusiasm. It is a knowing that all is well and the universe has your back.
- You are intuitive, in tune with the universe: I am yet to find a depressed tree. If you see, truly see, all things in nature are in perfect harmony, serene, calm, surrendered, simple. In deep meditations, sometimes, your sense of self is even lost. You’ll notice that you are nothing. And you seek nothing. Yet, it is from which everything originates. For your daily life, that might mean that you’ll never feel lonely, depressed or that you have no meaning. You’ll understand that there’s no need to have a meaning.
So these is what I have experienced through my meditations. I wish you all the luck on your spiritual path.
A word of caution
It would be overwhelmingly difficult for some people to practice meditation at first. Kind of like the initial resistance on rolling the ball. But once it gets rolling, the momentum carries it forward. Practice becomes easy and even fun at times. Also, we’re all conditioned to be in a state of fear and chaos at all times. Expect to face all religious dogmas, personal limiting beliefs, fears and the subconscious mess that will float around on the canvas of your awareness. Let it happen. Watch it. And breathe again.
