September is almost here! Hurray! Time to get the stationary shopping done, the new uniforms purchased and the kids back to school! So much excitement to be had! Although I’m sure if I were to ask the kids they wouldn’t be that excited, and actually I’m not sure you are either.

The house will be empty, you’ll have time for yourself… what sounds so bad about that? For many of my clients, this time of year brings around back-to-work-anxiety. You’ve had so long away from your desk, that now you don’t know where to start or even if you are capable of starting! Well, it’s time we put an end to this. September really is the new January, in as far as it’s the time for us to sort our lives out!

On September 1st there will be 122 days left of the year. That 122 days to press the reset button on your business, and 122 days left to reach your goals.

It’s easy to feel defeated at this point, especially when things haven’t gone exactly how we wanted them to. My advice? It’s time to reset, let’s get to work on you and your business. Why wait until January for self-improvement? I want to give you a few simple tips to follow, and you should find yourself being more proactive and successful:

Commit to Your Goal

Without commitment and dedication, you will not achieve your goals – there’s no other way around it. If you are finding it hard to commit to a goal, then go back and figure out exactly what is the problem; is the goal too far-fetched? Have you identified the goal correctly? Or do you simply just lack the necessary motivation to accomplish it? Remember to start as you mean to go on, and write your goals down so you have some form of accountability!

Think Positive

It sounds cliché but the power of positive thinking has benefits beyond belief. Positive thinkers are better at coping with stress, have stronger immunity and even a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and let’s be honest who doesn’t want that? Why not try a self-affirming mantra to help you during the challenges of achieving your goals?

Now repeat after me – you are your own superhero!

Reflect:

Give yourself a few minutes each day, week and month to go over your plan. Try to establish what you have learnt, figure out what went well and what didn’t. Doing so will help you to better prepare for the future. Remember that your plan is not set in stone, it’s there to give you a guiding hand. If what you have planned isn’t working for you, change it! Take it one small step at a time if you need to, just be conscious of how you feel and what you are doing with your time.

Take Action:

Even I am bored of saying this now! But facts are facts- those that take action succeed. If it’s fear of failure that is holding you back, then I must tell you that those who act even when they are really unsure are the most admirable and courageous. If you want it enough, go and get it. You started for a reason, remind yourself of that!

So, let’s face our back-to-work-anxiety square in the face! You’ve got this, it’s time you believed in yourself. Let’s make this September the most productive January we’ve ever had!
